  • Day 1:Arrive in Lhasa (70 km)

    We will arrive in Lhasa around 16:00. Our local guide will greet you at the railway station and present you a Hada (presenting Hada is a special ceremony of Tibetan for greeting their guests). Then we will set out for the Holy City – Lhasa which is 3658 meters above the sea level. You could take a rest and adapt yourself to the plateau environment after we arrived at our hotel.

  • Day 2:Potala Palace – Norbu Lingka – Tibet Museum – Tibetan Ridotto

    We will make a visit to the highest ancient castle style architectural complex above the sea level – Potala Palace (1 hour). It was the residence of the Tibetan Dalai Lamas, as well as the political, educational and religious center of Tibet. It was built in the 7th century during the regime of Songtsen Gampo. Potala Palace is composed of the White Palace and the Red Palace.

    In the afternoon, we will make a visit to Norbu Lingka – the Summer Palace of Dalai Lamas. It was constructed in 1740s and covers an area of 0.36 square meters after more than 200 years expansion. It is the largest artificial garden in Tibet with beautiful landscapes and rich historical relics.

    In the evening, we will enjoy the special and local Tibetan ridotto – Happiness. Happiness is a Tibetan Opera which present the story related to happiness with chanting and singing. The audiences could enjoy visual and aural feast brought by the local outstanding artists. You can experience the unique and splendid traditional culture of Tibet from these performances.

  • Day 3:Drepung Monastery – Jokhang Temple – Barkhor Street – Manufacture Process of Thangka

    We will make a visit to Drepung Monastery in the morning. It is one of the three great monasteries of Gelug Sect, as well as the largest monastery in the world. There were about 10000 Buddhists in the monastery in its heyday. It covers an area of 0.2 million square meters with an altitude of 3800 meters.

    In the afternoon, we will pay a visit to the Jokhang Temple which was widely accepted as the spiritual center of Tibet. The precious Statue of 12-year Sakyamuni (the founder of Buddhism) brought to Tibet by Princess of Chinese Tang Dynasty and the statues of some eminent Buddhists are enshrined in the monastery. There are also exquisite murals which present the history and culture of Tibet collected in the monastery. Then we will take a ramble at Barkhor Street which around the Jokhang Temple. There we could experience the traditional culture and daily life of Tibetan.

    We will also tour to the handicraft workshop to watch the manufacture process of Thangka. Thangka is a colorful scroll painting which was also called fabric painting. It is embroidery or drawing on the cloth, silk or paper. It is an art which collected the ethnic characteristics of Tibetan. The manufacture process of Thangka is pretty complicated; some of the religious ceremonies are included. As a movable halidom, Thangka could be worshipped by the nomadic people. Thangka has been praised as the Tibetan Encyclopedia since it recorded the history and explained the religious doctrine. Thangka is also very practical since it is widely used in the daily life of Tibetan.
