It takes you about 45 minutes hiking to a small local Tibetan village after you set out from your campsite. Local Tibetans are friendly, but they may don't understand English. You can try to ask for a bowl of Butter tea or some water from them with body language, or few Tibetan languages. You will have a chance to enjoy an ancient building relic after 50 minutes' walking. After 1 hour later, you will reach small gather town. All the local Tibetans live around will gather in this small center town to buy the food, drink and other daily supplies. You can eat something in the restaurant. The food there is not expensive. You will have one more option for accommodation instead of tent – guesthouse. If you feel tired of taking your packages on the way, you can rent yaks and yak workers here. In general, yaks cost RMB 400/per person and the yak workers cost RMB 200/per person. Or you can rent a car to go to Mt. Everest Base Camp.
Anyway, it will take you 2 days if you plan to hike from here to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Along the way, you will have a chance to see the highland barley land and amazing highland sceneries. There will be a crossing in front of Zhaxizong. You should turn left and finally meet a small village about 1-hour walking. After 45 minutes' walking, you will reach the administrative center of Zhaka Valley – Basong Village. There is a small hotel you can overnight.
About 20 minutes later after you leave Basong Village, you will see a small cement bridge. After 2 hours and 25 minutes' walking, you can reach Quzong Village of Zhaka Valley. And then you can spend 1 night there.
You will climb over a mountain after leaving Quzong Village. Then cross a bridge to reach Rongbuk Monastery, which takes you about 2.5 hours hiking. Mt. Everest Base Camp is not far from Rongbuk Monastery so that Rongbuk Monastery is highly praised as the best place to overlook Mt. Everest. You can trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp from Rongbuk Monastery. It takes you about 2 hours.
Generally speaking, there are a lot of tourists camping in Mt. Everest Base Camp from May to September. If you are interested to share your Tibet tour experience with others, you can sleep in the tent with your own warm sleeping bags.
