We will pick you up at the airport or railway station. We will drive to Lhasa along Yarlung Zangbo River and Lhasa River and enjoy the Tibetan style dwellings on our way. Then we will take a rest and adapt ourselves to the plateau environment after we arrived at our hotel.
We will make a visit to the highest ancient castle style architectural complex above the sea level – Potala Palace in the morning. It was the residence of the Tibetan Dalai Lamas, as well as the political, educational and religious center of Tibet.
In the afternoon, we will pay a visit to the Jokhang Temple which was widely accepted as the spiritual center of Tibet. The precious Statue of 12-year Sakyamuni (the founder of Buddhism) brought to Tibet by Princess of Chinese Tang Dynasty and the statues of some eminent Buddhists are enshrined in the monastery. Then we will take a ramble at Barkhor Street which around the Jokhang Temple. It is a free market and a famous circumambulation in Tibet.
The whole journey is 360 km and the highest altitude is about 5100 meters. We will make our way to the largest city in Tsang – Shigatse, via Yamdrok Lake, Karo-la Glacier and Manla Reservoir (which was praised as Little Yamdrok Lake). We can also take an overview of Zongshan Castles and make a visit to Palkhor Monastery in Gyantse.
Old Tingri is located at the foot of Mt. Everest. It borders on Nepal in the south and the International Road between China and Nepal passes here. We can see the most scenic spots of the Himalayas. The 6th highest mountain – Mt. Qowowuyag is standing on the south of the basin. We can also see the worldly famous Mt. Everest here.
We will leave Old Tingri for Lungchang Village along Laqu River.
We will camp at the foot of the Mt. Magang. We can take an overview of Mt. Qowowuyag if there is a good visibility.
We will set out from Drokpa and climb over the Magang Mountain Pass. Then we will keep moving toward Dzachu River and camp by the river.
We will trek to Rongbuk Monastery from Dzachu River in the morning.
We will make a visit to the highest monastery above the sea level – Rongbuk Monastery with an altitude of 5100 meters after breakfast. It is a special monastery of Nyingma Sect, both the monks and nuns live in the monastery. It is only 20 kilometers away from the top of Mt. Everest. It is the best place to appreciate and photograph the amazing natural landscape of Mt. Everest. Then we will trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp, where we could take a close look of Mt. Everest. After that, we will trek back to Rongbuk Monastery.
We will drive back to Shigatse from Rongbuk Monastery along the same way.
In the morning, we will pay a visit to the residence of Panchen Lamas – Tashilhunpo Monastery. Then we will back to Lhasa along Yarlung Zangbo River Valley.
We will transfer you to the airport or railway station.
