Trek around Mt. Kailash in 2013

Trek day one (Outer circuit) - Darchen to Dirapuk

It is 52 kilometers long for trekking around Mt. Kailash. You should start from Darchen heading toward Tarboche in west and ends at Darchen County, too. During famous Saga Dawa festival, thousands of devout Tibetans and tourists are gathered here to celebrate the festival. They show the wonderful and splendid performances to worship and pray toward the sacred mountain – Mt. Kailash.

From here facing toward north through Sershong valley, Chuku monastery was founded at face of hill on opposite side. Lha-chu River provides a steady supply of water all the way to Dira-puk monastery at northwest face of Mt. Kailash.

Mt. Kailash is also regarded and respected as the most Sacred Mountain of Indian people and others of the world. If you have enough time, why not follow them to walk around Mt. Kailash for few days? Devoutly worship and pray to the Mt. Kailash, and tell the Buddha what you wish. It may help you make your heart peace.

Trek day two - Dirapuk to Zutul-puk

Second day of trekking is hardest of trekking. You have to start second day by climbing up the highest point of trekking Drolma-la Mountain Pass which is 5630 meters high. You can see many pilgrims are reading holy books and hanging prayer flags to bring luck and success in life at the top of the mountain. Have a glimpse and make memorial picture of north face of Mt. Kailash at last. And then you will leave her from here high pass and descend down to the grassy field to Zutul-puk Monastery. The trekking path is available in the left of Dzong-chu River and it is affording those with camping site and grazing yaks and horses in peak season.

Trek day three- Dzultripuk to Darchen

Today is the last and ending of Mt. Kailash trekking experience during Tibet tour. In the morning you will have a chance to visit Zutul-puk Monastery and the cave of Milarepa (kagyupa magician in 11th century). Walking through the small gorge and river allows you to see the amazing Barkha plain. You driver will take you to Darchen then. Have a good rest after a long trek.

Drive from Darchen to Zanda

Drive from Darchen to Zanda along Xinjiang-Tibet highway and cut off the main highway after 160km to west at Moincer, 6 and 7hours driving ziazagging up and down road through gorges and gullies. You will see the magnificent landscape of Zanda, looks very similar to the landscape of Ladhak in India. In the afternoon you will visit Tholing Monastery.

Zanda / Guge Kingdom Ruins

Morning drive to Tsaparang Guge Kingdom ruins, only 20km driving in the Valley of Sutlej River. Guge kingdom is the fortress built in the 9th century etched into the very stone of a towering ridge; a large number of temples are fated so far and contains marvelous murals and ancient caves dated back to 10th century. After your visit there, drive back to Zanda and overnight there.
