Tibet Adventure Tour – Lake Lhanagtso

Lake Lhanagtso is one of the must-go spots for tourists planning a Tibet adventure tour to Ngari. Lake Lhanagtso, also named Lake Rakshas means "a poisonous black lake" in Tibetan. It is located in Ourang County in Ngari Prefecture with an altitude of 4574 meters. It is pretty close to the holy lake Mapam Yumtso. Local Tibetans called it Ghost Lake since the salt water in the lake is not potable.

The water in Lake Lhanagtso is dark blue and pretty salt. There is no plant and animal around the lake. People called it Ghost Lake for it's inanimate. A long and narrow hill stands between Mapam Yumtso and Lake Lhanagtso. The two lakes were connected by a ditch named Ganpachu. Though the ditch has being dry for a pretty long time, local Tibetans believe that the water in Mapam Yumtso will flow into Lake Lhanagtso one day. The water in the Ghost Lake would be as sweet as the water in the holy lake.

Tourists planning a Tibet adventure tour to Mt. Kailash and Mapam Yumtso would like to make a visit to Lake Lhanagtso since there is a long section of the road stretching toward Mt. Kailash is only about 1 kilometer away from the lake. Besides, people have to enter or out Purang County via the zone between Lake Lhanagtso and Mapam Yumtso.

Stand by Lake Lhanagtso, people would feel like stands on the edge of the universe since there is no plant and animal around the lake. But the scenery here is pretty amazing. Both the dark red island in the lake and the dark red hills around lake are very charming.
