If you are a seasoned driver, it will be your fantastic experience to drive to Tibet along Sichuan-Tibet Highway, Yunnan-Tibet Highway, Sinkiang-Tibet Highway, and Qinghai-Tibet Highway. The plateau sceneries along the way are breathtaking and totally different from other scenic spots. There are few cars or people on the way.

Sichuan-Tibet Highway Mileage

For some tourists, Sichuan-Tibet Highway would be their prior choice to enter Tibet. If you are one of the enthusiastic backpackers, you'd enjoy and experience a lot, as both of the breathtaking sceneries and the dangerous troubles are available along Sichuan-Tibet Highway.

The southern route of Sichuan-Tibet Highway (G318 National Highway) is 2159 kilometers long in total. The detailed mileage is listed as below for your reference.

Lhasa – 68 – Mozhu Kongkya County – 206 – Kongpu Gyangda County – 127 – Bayi Town – 19 – Nyingchi Prefecture – 127 – Tongmai – 89 – Bome County – 129 – Ranwu Lake – 90 – Basu County – 94 – Bangda County – 107 – Zuogong County – 158 – Mangkang – 71 – Zhubalong – 36 – Batang – 165 – Litang – 143 – Yajiang – 74 – Xindu Bridge – 75 – Kangding – 49 – Luding – 168 – Ya an – 139 – Chengdu City of Sichuan Province.

The northern route of Sichuan-Tibet Highway (G317 National Highway) is 3412 kilometers long in total. The detailed mileage is listed here. Lhasa – 87 – Yampachen – 75 – Dangxong – 164 – Ngari Prefecture – 136 – Baqing – 248 Qamdo Prefecture – 228 – Gyangda County – 85 – Jinsha River Bridge – 24 – Dege – 112 – Manigange – 95 – Gantse – 97 Luho – 72 – Daofu – 68 – Bamei – 77 – Danpa – Xiaojin – 43 – Rilong – 148 – Wolong – 83 – Dujiangyan – 54 – Chengdu City.

Qinghai-Tibet Highway (G109 National Highway)

It is originated from Xining city of Qinghai Province to Lhasa City of Tibet Region. It is not only the highest and longest asphalt road of the world, but also the safest road of entering Tibet. It is available in different seasons. People will have a chance to enjoy the grasslands, salt lake, Gebi desert, and high mountains, etc. The detailed mileage is listed as below.

Lhasa – 87 – Yampachen – 75 – Dangxong – 164 – Ngari Prefecture – 138 – Ando – 89 – Tanglha Mountain – 100 – Yanshiping – 110 – Toto River Bank – 150 – Wudaoliang – 269 – Golmud.

Sinkiang-Tibet Highway

Sinkiang-Tibet Highway - 219 National Highway is almost the most dangerous road of entering Tibet region. The detailed mileage is listed here. Yecheng City (Karghalik) – 69 – Pusa – 88 – Kuzha Daban – 339 – Sweet Water Sea – 110 – Gyeshan Daban – 177 – Doma – 143 – Ritu – 87 – Lion Spring – 331 – Baga – 334 – Zhongpa – 145 – Saga – 293 – Latse – 157 – Shigatse Prefecture – 337 – Lhasa City.

Yunnan-Tibet Highway (G214 National Highway)

It is 1930 kilometers long in total. It originates from Jinghong of Yunnan Province and ends to Dopuma (the junction of Qinghai Province and Tibet region). It connects to G318 National Highway (Sichuan-Tibet Highway) in Mangkang County. It was actually a branch road of Ancient Tea-horse Road. The best time drive along Yunnan-Tibet Highway is from August to October every year.
