Qamdo Travel Information – Brief Introduction of Qamdo

Qamdo Prefecture acts as an important transportation hub between Tibet and Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province and Qinghai Province. It is located at the joint part of eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the western Hengduan Mountains. Qamdo Prefecture is widely known as the Eastern Gateway of Tibet. It attracts a large number of tourists both at home and abroad with its distinctive natural scenery and cultural landscape.

Qamdo Prefecture is a famous destination along the golden tourism route – Ancient Tea-horse Road. The famous Jinsha River, Nu River and Lantsang River flow through Qamdo Prefecture. The State Highway G214, State Highway G317 and State Highway G318 stretch across the prefecture. With convenient transportation, Qamdo Prefecture is also the core land and birthplace of Kangba Culture.

Qamdo Travel Information – Natural Tourism Resources

Covers a large area, Qamdo Prefecture enjoys rich tourism resource which is divided into 30 scenic areas due to the special geographic position and complicated historical changes. There are totally 130 natural scenic spots and 90 cultural sites, among which the Ranwu Lake National Forest Park, Hongla Mountain Yunnan Snub-nose Monkey Natural Reserve and Kano Site are the most noted ones.

Located in the world famous Hengduan Mountains, Qamdo Prefecture has several famous mountains, including the Dameiyung Snow Mountain with an altitude of 6324 meters and the Meili Snow Mountain with an altitude of 6740 meters. These beautiful mountains have been the must-visit sites for tourists planning a Tibet tour through the highways. Except for the beautiful mountains, there are also some gorgeous lakes and rivers in Qamdo Prefecture. The Mangtso Lake with an altitude of 4100 meters, the famous Ranwu Lake, the Canyon of Nu River, Lantsang River and Jinsha River and the gorgeous Laigu Glacier are all precious tourism resources in Qamdo Prefecture. In addition, tourists here could also take a bath in the famous hot springs, such as the Qutzekor Hot Spring, Yiri Hot Spring and Meiyu Hot Spring.

Noted as the center of the famous Kangba Culture, Qamdo Prefecture has profound religion culture and folk culture. Kangba Culture is a typical regional culture which is pretty different from the folk culture in the other regions of Tibet. Tourists could always find out its characteristics from their language, dressing, religion and festival ceremonies. The Kano Site and Xiaoenda Site under state key protection are of great archeological significance in the exploration of the ancient Tibetan civilization. Qamdo Travel Information – Transportation to Qamdo

With an altitude of 4334 meters, Qamdo Bangda Airport is the highest civil airport above the sea level. The flight between Lhasa and Qamdo has been opened. The airport is about 120 kilometers away from Qamdo County Seat and it takes about one hour driving to get to the county seat from the airport. Tourists making a self-driving tour to Tibet along Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Yunnan-Tibet Highway could take a stop at Qamdo before heading to Lhasa after sightseeing here.
