Tibet Travel Diary - Hotel Information Part

Update: Jul. 24th, 2014

Last time I wrote that we reached Lhasa railway station. Well, next we started to find where our hotel is. Of course we have booked it from Tibet tour agency in advance because it is cheaper. Lhasa Hotel is just near the railway station and you won't miss it when you turn left. It is a 4-star international travel hotel in Tibet, and it used to be the former Lhasa Holiday Inn (1986.08.08-1997.08.08).

Then we took a taxi to our Hotel - Yak Hotel. It cost us about 20 RMB. We knew Yak hotel from lonely planet book and recommendations of our friends'. It is an international hotel located at the center of Lhasa City.very popular for foreign tourists. It is said that the hotel receives more than 6,000 guests every year in average. There are over 70 guest rooms in the hotel, including luxurious suites, standard rooms and economic rooms. 24-hour hot water supply is provided and every room is equipped with IDD and air conditioner. You know what, only fewer hotel provides air conditioner in Lhasa even though it is really cold at night.

Well, we spend 2 nights in yak hotel and the staffs seemed very friendly. They spoke both Mandarin and English, and I think English is better. The TV, shampoo, hot water, and air conditioner and other normal room facilities are available as they said. But I kindly suggest you to prepare your personal cup and shoes. You know, the standard of Lhasa hotels is not the same as it in other cities of China. We can understand it. On the other hand, the location of Yak Hotel is really convenient and fantastic. It is very close to Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. Just few minutes walking we could reach the square around Jokhang Temple. And we could overlook it from our window.

Well, about high altitude sickness, we did not feel it much, except a little headache. We did not run or speak loud, either went out on the first night. The rest of the first day we spent it in the hotel, and it really did help.
