Full View of Nagqu Prefecture

Nagqu Snow Mountain

Nagqu Prefecture is situated between Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain and Tanggula Mountain. In the south, it adjoins Dangxong County. In the north, it adjoins Nyerong County and Ando County. In the east, it adjoins Biru County and Gyali County inTibet. In the west, it adjoins Bange County. The county center is approximately 320 kilometers far from Lhasa City. The county center is originated from Namqye Village to Nima Village, about 233 kilometers long from the east to the west. It stretches about 185 kilometers long from the north to the south.

There are full of high snow mountains and steep peaks, deep valleys and limpid lakes in Nagqu County. The terrain of Nagqu County is higher in the northwest but lower in the southeast part. It is characteristic of the plateau hilly terrain. Nagqu County is covered by the snow all year around so that some parts of Nagqu County are pathless, such as the plateau glacier snow mountains, etc. Even though it is dangerous, more and more explorers are attracted there.

Chongqyen Kado Grassland

The horse racing festival will be held in Chongqyen Kado Grassland every year. During that time, the grassland will be covered by colorful Tibetan tents and full of crowded people. The commercial intercourse is also held during the period of Horse Racing Festival in the grassland.

Location: the northern suburb of Nagqu Prefecture.

Shaoteng Monastery

Shaoteng Monastery is a famous monastery of Gelug Sect in northern Tibet. It is managed by Sera Monastery of Lhasa. It is proud of 2 hundred year's history. Even though it is not very large, it is well known by local Tibetan people. On January 4th every year according to Tibetan calendar, the religious ceremony will be held in this monastery.

Location: Nagqu Town of Nagqu Prefecture.

Top 8 Towers

The 8 towers were established during the period of King Gesar. It was built to memory the hero – Shapa. On the 15th and 30th every month according to Tibetan calendar, the herdsman will pilgrim here from far away.

Location: nearby Qinghai-Tibet Highway of Nagqu Prefecture.

Sangtan Kangsang Snow Mountain

It is one of the top 25 highest mountains of Tibet. It is characteristic of different sceneries in different seasons. There is a Parong Monastery at the foot of the mountain. It is said to be the ancestral monastery of Parong Kargyu Sect in Tibet Buddhism history.

Location: Gutu Town of Nagqu Prefecture. Qinghai-Tibet Highway is available in front of it.

Zhuoma Gorge

Zhuoma Gorge is about 4700 meters high and about 15 kilometers long. One side of Zhuoma Gorge is covered by the snow and ice, but the other side of the mountain is covered by the green trees and beautiful flowers. It is amazing and unbelievable, right? In addition, there are some other attractions nearby Zhuoma Gorge, such as the lakes, high snow mountains, strange rocks and ancient monasteries, etc.

Location: Guge Village of Nagqu Prefecture, about 11 kilometers far from the G109 National Highway.
