Potala Palace

Everyone should have a unique wonderful Tibet in their heart. During Tibet tour, most of the tourists would get something in return after finishing the journey, not the physical.

Travel around Tibet - Tibet Overview

The entire Tibet covers an area of 1220000 square kilometers of plateau. If we praise Tibet as a perfect poem, the beautiful plateau is the essence of the poem. It is the most moved and wonderful paragraph of this poem.

The highest roof

"The roof of the world" is the best title of amazing Tibet, which highlights the most beautiful attraction of this holy land. Yes, if the earth looks like a house, Tibet would be the roof of this house. It is a high plateau located in the west of China, renowned for not only the highest snow mountains, but also the source of many long and large rivers. There are 14 highest mountains of altitude of 8000 meters above the sea level in the world, among which 9 of them are available in Tibet plateau.

Tibet plateau is the most unique and breathtaking plateau throughout the world. It stretches from huge Gangdisê Mountains Range in the south and ends to Magnificent Hengduan Mountain Range to the southeast. It totally covers Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, the west part of Sichuan Province, Gansu Province and some areas of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The entire coverage is 2500000 square kilometers – such a huge and vast area, which already exceeds 1/4 of the total coverage of China.

The 3rd ladder of the earth

As you may know, the terrain of China could be divided into 3 ladders. The terrain gradually becomes higher from the east to the west. Tibet plateau is the highest geological location of China, the 3rd ladder of China.

Compare with the mountainous region, the absolute altitude of plateau is higher than the relative altitude. But regarding the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the terrain is lower in the southeast but higher in the northwest. If you have a chance to overlook from the outer space, beautiful Qinghai-Tibet Plateau consists of series of mountains, Himalaya Mountain Range, Gangdisê Mountain Range, Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain Range, the Karakorum Mountains, Tanggula Mountain Range, and Kunlun Mountain Range. Hengduan Mountain Range is formed when Tanggula Mountain Range and Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain Range change the direction.

As the average elevation of those mountains in Tibet is about 5000 meters, among which the main peak is over 7000 or 8000 meters high. Therefore, the top of the mountain is always covered by the snow and ice the whole year round. The snow and ice become the beautiful glaciers finally. So, many tourists who take the flight into Lhasa City may have a chance to sightseeing the breathtaking scenery of the continuous glaciers. It becomes the first impression of this magic world for many tourists.
