Circumambulate around Mt.Kailash – Purification

It is very devote to walk around Mt. Kailash to purify our minds and spirit. Local Tibetans like to circumambulate around Mt. Kailash to show their religious heart. Even some of pilgrims are crawling around the holy mountain step by step, or one circle after one circle. It is said to be useful to purify our guilty soul.

Introduction of circumambulation around Mt. Kailash

Circumambulation around Mt. Kailash is a very religious ceremony in Tibet. The holy mountains in Tibet are highly respected and believed by local people. When you are circumambulating around the holy mountains, you should walk clockwise. It is said that people could purify their guilt in their lifetime if they walk 1 circle around Mt. Kailash. If they are willing to walk 10 circles around Mt. Kailash, they can flee from the hell.

Since it is a religious ceremony for local Tibetans to circumambulate the holy mountains, it is the custom for most areas of Tibet. The mountain which mentioned in the poem is the holy mountain. The highest mountain which mentioned on the Buddhist sutras is Xumi Mountain. Xumi Mountain is highly praised as the center of the world. It is said to be the ashram of Sakyamuni, but also the palace of Shiva in Hinduism. People always regard it as the illusory mountain, but actually, it exists indeed. According to the record history, starting from India, after you pass 9 snow mountains, you will see a very big snow mountain. It is the Gangrenbuqyen the main peak of Gangdisê Mountains. Gangdisê Mountains, the name literally means the treasure of the whole snow mountains in Tibet language.

Pilgrims

Some devout pilgrims extremely admire the holy mountain in Tibet, so that they always crawl along the way. They depart from their hometown, whatever the distance is, they start crawling at the moment when they leave home during Tibet tour. They make the simple gloves with their hands and on their knees. In general, after 3 steps, they will crawl on the ground with their whole body. It only takes 1-2 years to reach their destination, but they never give up. When they stop kowtowing because of having dinner or car resisting, they will mark it where they stopped. Afterwards, they will go ahead to Lhasa City. Along the way, they will ask for the food from others instead taking it from home.
