Recommended Attractions of Nagqu Prefecture

Nagqu

Nagqu Prefecture is located in the north of Tibet Autonomous Region between Tanggula Mountain and Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain. In the south, it connects to Dangxong County. In the north, it connects to Nyerong and Ando County. In the east, it connects to Biru County and Gyali County in Tibet. In the west, it connects to Bange County. The average elevation is over 4450 meters high. Nagqu Prefecture absolutely stretches from the south to the north about 185 kilometers long.

From the November to March next year, it is windy and the climate is very drought in Nagqu Prefecture. The temperature is relatively lower during this period. From the May to the September next year, it is the golden growth time of the grassland. It is characteristic of the heavy rain and the moderate climate.

Tibetan people are bold and generous, friendly and versatile. Almost every Tibetan people are good at dancing and singing. During the golden time of Nagqu Prefecture – August, the Horse Racing Festival will be held there. The scene is splendid and magnificent.

Geladandong Ice Tower Forest

At the foot of the Geladandong Snow Mountain, there is an ice tower. It covers an area of 800 square kilometers. It symbolizes the holy light in the snow area.

Location: Gyiri Village of Ando County.

Biru Skeleton Wall

It is helpful for archaeologists to research the funeral culture. There are hundreds of human skeleton skulls.

Location: Darmu Monastery of Biru County in Tibet.

Maimo Karst Cave

Maimo Karst Cave is regarded as the secret room of the fairy. There are some stone pillars and sacrificial altars outside of the cave. There are some natural stone ladders and small karst caves inside. Some of the karst caves inside are so deep that hardly to reach.

Location: the junction of Biru County and Baqing County.

Tangra Yumco Lake

Tangra Yumco Lake is the famous sacred lake of northern Tibet, and it is the holy land of Bon Sect. It is embraced by the high mountains. There is only one entrance in the east part of Tangra Yumco Lake. Yubon Monastery was built on the steep cliffs. It is said to be the oldest monastery of Bon Sect. There is a small Tibetan village in the lakeside. The pilgrims would like to take a bath in the spring water nearby the village.

Location: Wenpu Village of Nima County.

Dangqyongtso Lake

It is regarded as the small Tangra Yumco Lake. It is said that Dangqyongtso Lake will change the color of the water in a day. It is amazing. In the east of the lake, there are full of high mountains.

Location: about 5 kilometers far from Tangra Yumco Lake.

Shangxong Kingdom Ruins

It is available on the hillside back against the Dago Snow Mountain. In the west, it faces to Tangra Yumco Lake. It is proud of 1600 year's history.

Location: Wenbu Village of Nima County.

Selingtso Lake

It is the second larger lake of Tibet. It is about 33 meters in depth. It is a traditional pasture nearby the lakeside.

Location: the northwest of Bange County.

Qyangtang Natural Reserve

It is regarded as the no man's land of northern Tibet and the second larger natural reserve of the world. It covers an area of 24.712 square kilometers.

Location: northern Tibet.

Shenzha Natural Reserve

It is the paradise of the birds of Tibet. It is the highest and largest breeding place of black-necked crane of China.

Location: Shenzha County.
