Dressing Tips for Tibet Tour in Different Seasons – Brief Introduction of Tibet Climate

Tourists making a Tibet tour are required to wear different clothes to cope with the special climate in different seasons on Tibet Plateau. The scenic spots you are planning to visit are also closely related to your dressing since the altitude greatly determined the temperature. Obvious temperature difference between day and night is one of the characteristics for Tibet climate. The temperature between day and night even reaches 15 Celsius in winter. In fact, Tibet enjoys a pretty warm winter compared to several cities in northern China for there is always lovely sunshine in Tibet even in winter though the temperature would drop rapidly after the sunset.

Tibet has been selected as one of the best summer resorts in China for it enjoys a cool summer. The scenic spots with high altitude, such as Lake Namtso, Mt. Everest or Mt. Kailash are relatively colder than the regions with lower altitude. Tourists planning to visit these spots should prepare warm clothes to cope with coldness all year around. Tourists with relatively weaker physical condition are highly advised to make a Tibet tour between June and October for the climate is relatively pleasant and the oxygen content in the air is relatively higher during that period on Tibet Plateau.

Dressing Tips for Tibet Tour in Different Seasons – Spring (March, April, May)

Coat: leisure wear, outdoor wear, gym suit. The double-decked or relatively thick coat is more suitable.

Underclothes: sweater, thermal underwear

Pants: relatively thick pants which suitable for walking. Warm pants or long johns.

Shoes: hard-bottom hiking shoes, outdoor shoes or sneakers. For tourists planning to join the Tibet trekking tours to Mt. Everest, Ngari or Medog, high ankle boots might be more suitable.

Dressing Tips for Tibet Tour in Different Seasons – Summer (June, July, August)

Coat: leisure wear, outdoor wear, gym suit.

Underclothes: long-sleeved T-shirt or shirt. Tourists could also prepare the thermal underwear to cope with the low temperature in the night.

Pants: leisure or sports pants. Thin johns should be prepared in case of need in June. The johns are not necessary in July or August.

Shoes: hard-bottom hiking shoes, outdoor shoes, sneakers or high-ankle boots.

Dressing Tips for Tibet Tour in Different Seasons – Autumn (September, October, November)

Coat: leisure wear, outdoor wear, gym suit. The double-decked or relatively thick coat is more suitable since the climate is getting colder after the summer.

Underclothes: sweater or thermal underwear should be prepared to cope with the coldness in the night.

Pants: thick leisure pants or sports pants. Long johns are quite necessary.

Shoes: hard-bottom hiking shoes, outdoor shoes, sneakers or high-ankle boots.

Dressing Tips for Tibet Tour in Different Seasons – Winter (December, January, February)

Coat: Thick leisure wear or down jacket.

Underclothes: thermal underwear suits and thick sweater should be prepared.

Pants: thick leisure pants or sports pants. Cotton-padded trousers are necessary for tourists be worried about the cold weather condition.

Shoes: hard-bottom hiking shoes, outdoor shoes, sneakers or high-ankle boots.
