Worthy Attractions of Shigatse

Zipuri Sacred Mountain

Zipuri Sacred Mountain is about 5500 meters high and consists of 108 monasteries, 108 spring water, 108 karst caves, and 108 celestial burial platforms, etc. Large numbers of believers will gather here and worship to the mountain immortals. In addition, there are lots of insect fossils on the sacred mountain.

Location: the boundary city of Tingri County and Nyelam County.

Shisha Pangma Peak

Shisha Pangma Peak is the only one high mountain over 8000 meters high in China, which consists of 3 peaks. There is a 10 meters long valley glacier in the northern slope. The ice towers forests are shining in the sun, which looks mysterious and beautiful. Gyatsola Mountain Pass is the best place to take photos of Shisha Pangma Peak, which is located on the way to Nyelam County from Tingri County.

Zham Port

Zham Port is actually a very small boundary town with lower elevation. It was established back against the mountains and acted as advanced port of China. Friendship is available in Zham Port and it is the boundary bridge of China and the Kingdom of Nepal. The friendship bridge is 13 meters high. There is free market of border trade on one side, and the other side of Friendship Bridge leads to the Kingdom of Nepal. As of now, there is a Zham Port Natural Reserve in Zham Town.

Location: Zham Town of Nyelam County, about 30 kilometers far from the county center.

Yatong Port

Yatong Port is an important military port next to Sikkim. There are rich in natural products and Tibetan rare medicine materials. It was opened in 2006.

Location: Yatong Village of Yatong County.

Kargyu Monastery

It belongs to Kargyu Sect. Some cultural relics such as Thangka are preserved well in Kargyu Monastery. It is little-known for most of tourists.

Location: Yatong Village of Yatong County.

Yatong Primitive Forest

It is highly praised as the green treasure-house of southwestern China. There are full of ancient trees, waterfalls, rare faunas and floras.

Location: Yatong County.

Dongga Monastery

Dongga Monastery was established in the early 16th Century. It is a large monastery of Gelug Sect in Yatong County. On January 15th according to Tibetan calendar, the Buddha exhibition will be held in Dongga Monastery.

Location: Yatong Village of Yatong County, about 13 kilometers far from the county center.

Kangpu Hot Spring

Kangpu Hot Spring covers an area of 50000 square meters. There are 14 spring waters.

Location: Kangpu Village of Yatong County, about 47 kilometers far from the county center.

Guanshang Lake

There is a mysterious legend of Guanshang Lake. It is said that when you look into the lake, you will have a chance to see the next place you will born.

Location: Qamlong Village of Gangpa County.

Nanni Monastery

Nanni Monastery was established during the period of Tubo Dynasty. The Buddha Statue of Sakyamuni is enshrined and worshipped inside the monastery. The religious dancing ceremony will be held on April 15th every year according to Tibetan calendar.

Location: about 12 kilometers far from the county center.
