With an altitude of 5200 meters, Mt. Everest Base Camp is only about 19 kilometers away from the top of Mt. Everest in straight distance. Located at the south of Rongbuk Monastery, Mt. Everest Base Camp is composed of a group of tents. Tourists from different corners of the world could spend a night here to enjoy the amazing sunset view and sunrise view. Visitors could drive to Rongbuk Monastery first, and then take the eco-car to the Base Camp. Except the public toilet, there is no other perpetual construction at Mt. Everest Base Camp.

It is said that April, May, September and October are the best seasons for climbing up to Mt. Everest for the climate in these seasons would be relatively better. Mt. Everest Highway refers to the highway to Mt. Everest Base Camp (at the foot of Mt. Everest) starts from the point of State Highway G318 near the Base Camp. With a total length of 110 kilometers, Mt. Everest Highway was constructed in 1978 under the guide of the local government. Currently, it is the one and only highway to Mt. Everest Base Camp. It provides great convenience for tourists planning to travel to Mt. Everest Base Camp for sightseeing since it was opened to traffic in 1978.

Tourists who've visited Mt. Everest Base Camp might have found that the road condition of the Mt. Everest Highway is pretty limited. Even the experienced drivers hold that it is really a challenge to drive a tourist bus on such a gravel road. It is reported that there are more than 170 bends on this 110-meter gravel highway. The road condition of this highway would get even worse in the rainy season and cold season. Both the water and ice require drivers to drive slowly and safely. Tourists willing to travel to Mt. Everest Base Camp are strongly suggested to avoid the snow season for the Mt. Everest Highway might be closed during the snow days in consideration of tourists' safety. It is always a better choice to choose a well conditioned 4WD rather than a bigger sized tourist bus whenever you are traveling to the base camp.

Tourists planning to travel to Mt. Everest Base Camp are always suggested to prepare some solid food in case of need. The guesthouse and restaurant at Mt. Everest Base Camp only provide simple Tibetan style and Sichuan style cooking. Warm clothes and sleeping bag are quite necessary for tourists willing to spend a night at Mt. Everest Base Camp. The temperature drops suddenly in the night.
