Ride a Bicycle on China-Nepal Highway via Mt. Everest

D8 Baiba Village (4349m) – Lulu Border Station (4281m) – Mt. Everest Crossing (4314m) – Mt. Everest Ticket Entrance (4396m) – Gyawula Mountain Pass (5205m) – Tashizong (4164m)

It is approximately 63 kilometers far from Baida Village to Tashizong in total. Firstly ride about 6 kilometers far to Lulu Border Station. You passport and Tibet Travel Permits will be both checked there. And then turn left and ride on the uneven asphalt road. It is about 12 kilometers long. Afterwards there is gravel road to Mt. Everest Base Camp. After passing Mt. Everest Ticket Entrance there are many steep turnings and spiral up slopes. Gyawula Mountain Pass is about 18 kilometers far. There is a viewing deck on the Gyawula Mountain Pass. If you are lucky enough you could overview Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu Peak, Shishapangma Peak and Makalu Peak. They are the highest mountains in Tibet. Afterwards you need to ride downward to Tashizong. It is about 30 kilometers far. It is gravel road, too. Take care.

There are some Sichuan Restautrants in Tashizong. You may get some supplies there. The telephone signal is available there, too.

D9 Tashizong (4164m) – Basong – Qyuzong – Rongbuk Monastery (4987m) – Mount Everest Base Camp (5020m)

It is gravel road about 49 kilometers long from Tashizong to Mt. Everest Base Camp. It is level road from Tashizong to Qyuzong and then there is up slope along the river to Mt. Everest Bridge. There is the second checkpoint on the way to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Afterwards we will reach Rongbuk Monastery. It is the closest place nearby Mt. Everest Base Camp therefore some tourists would suffer the high altitude sickness there. The elevation is 4987 meters high. It is also the best place to enjoy and photograph the sunrise scenery and sunset scenery of Mt. Everest. Mt. Everest Base Camp is located about 3 kilometers far. You could ride or just trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp from here.

Mt. Everest Base Camp is actually a large accommodation place surrounded by Tibetan tents. We kindly suggest you to get some supplies in Tashizong because the food in Mt. Everest Base Camp is not very good. If you would like to cook by yourself you need to pay for the additional service charge. We are very glad to provide you the free sleeping bags but you could also get your personal sleeping bag.

D10 Mt. Everest Base Camp (5020m) – Viewing Deck

The viewing deck is only 4 kilometers far from Mt. Everest Base Camp. It is 5137 meters high. Most of tourists would like to take some photos of the sunset of Mt. Everest there. But the temperature at night is very low, please keep you warm. In the morning, you will have a chance to enjoy the full view of Mt. Everest in front of you in the viewing deck if you are lucky enough. Afterwards you could trek back or ride a bicycle to Rongbuk Monastery, or Mt. Everest Base Camp.
