Ride a Bicycle along Sino-Nepalese Highway

D4 Gyantse (4025m) – Bailang – Shigatse (3836m)

It is 96 kilometers long from Gyantse County to Shigatse Prefecture. It is asphalt road. The road condition of this sect is the best of China-Nepal Highway – Sino-Nepalese Highway.

Firstly ride about 45 kilometers long from Gyantse to Bailang County, and then ride about 51 kilometers to Shigatse. There are all highland barley fields along the Nyantsu River with small villages. Tashilhunpo Monastery is the largest monastery of southern Tibet. It is the ancestral monastery of Gelug Sect. It is located at the slope of Nyima Mountain on the outskirts of Shigatse.

Shigatse Prefecture is one of the busiest regions of Tibet and you may overnight there. It is the busiest region of southern Tibet. There are some banks so that you could get some exchanges there. We kindly recommend you Chongqing Hostel in Shigatse Prefecture. It costs about 200 RMB per person per bed. It is healthy and safety.

D5 Shigatse Prefecture (3836m) – Unknown Mountain Pass (4058m) – Gyeting (3880m)

It is approximately 61 kilometers long from Shigatse Prefecture to Gyeting. It is asphalt road.

G318 National Highway is available not far from Tashilhunpo Monastery. You need ride a bicycle about 46 kilometers far to reach the unknown Mountain Pass. It is a long asphalt road. The plain scenery is wonderful on both sides of the road. The road condition is fine today.

Gyeting Town is the largest town of Sakya County. But the accommodation condition may be not very good. There are only 2 hostels on the street and neither of them provides the hot shower or TV. The electric power is only available in the evening. It is open-air washroom.

D6 Gyeting (3836m) – Liu Village – Resa (4181m) – Younongla Mountain Pass (4534m) – Sakya Crossing (4058m) – Latse County (4023m)

It is 95 kilometers far and it is asphalt road. Liu Village is about 17 kilometers far from Gyeting Town. You need to ride a bicycle along the uneven asphalt road. There is a steep up slope close to Younongla Mountain Pass. And then you need to ride downward to reach Sakya Crossing. Latse County is about 24 kilometers far from Sakya Crossing.

If you insist, you actually could spend only 1 day from Shigatse to Latse County. It is about 150 kilometers long. But you may miss a lot of beautiful attractions on the way. I think the most important thing during the journey is not only the destination, but also the unforgettable sceneries and people along the way.

D7 Latse County (4023m) – No. 41 Daoban – Gyatsola Mountain Pass (5252m) – Daoban – Gyatsola Mountain Pass (5252m) – Daoban – Baiba Village (4349m)

It is asphalt road and it is approximately 83 kilometers long. After passing Latse County we will meet the crossing of Ngari Prefecture and Tingri County. Tingri County is on the left and Ngari Prefecture is on the right side. It is also the junction of G318 National Highway and G219 National Highway. We need to turn left. After riding a bicyle along the gentle up slope we will reach Gyatsola Mountain Pass. Please pay attention to the high altitude sickness as the elevation increases 1200 meters here. Afterwards we will reach Baiba Village via Gyatso Village.

When you ride downward afterwards you will find the viewing deck of Mt. Everest. You can't miss it. If you are lucky enough with a good weather condition, you may have a chance to overview Mt. Everest.

Baiba Village is only 7 kilometers far from New Tingri (Xegar) so that you could decide to be continued or not as you wish. Baiba Village is also convenient to go ahead to Mt. Everest Base Camp. We kindly suggest you Mt. Everest Family Hostel in Baiba Village. It provides the hot shower, TV and costs about 100 RMB per person per bed. You could charge your battery there.
