Generally, it takes about 3 days to make kora around Mt. Kailash though it takes only one day for some of the pilgrims to make kora around Mt. Kailash. For tourists planning a Mt. Kailash tour, it would be a good choice to spend 3 days circumambulating the holy mountain since it will leave enough time for tourists to appreciate and record the breathtaking natural landscape instead of catching your path the whole journey.

Mt. Kailash Tour – First Day of Making Kora around Mt. Kailash

On the first day of making kora around Mt. Kailash, tourists will trek from Tarchen to Drirapuk Monastery. It is about 22 kilometers between Tarchen and Drirpuk, and tourists will trek about 10 hours on the first day. Tourists making a Mt. Kailash tour will have the chance to witness the plateau landscape of Lhachu Valley and visit the ChoSen Kang-nyi with an elevation of 4750 meters, one of the landmarks of Mt. Kailash.

On the first day, tourists making kora around Mt. Kailash will also witness the giant Darboche Flagpole which is only hundreds meters away from ChoSen Kang-nyi. The colorful prayer flags on Darboche Flagpole would be changed on April 15th according to the Tibetan calendar every year. The Chogu Monastery with an altitude of 4820 meters is located on the cliff. Tourists here would have the chance to see the precious Statue of Chogu Opame. Drirapuk Monastery – the destination on the first day is about 3.5 hours trekking away from Chogu Monastery.

Mt. Kailash Tour – Second Day of Making Kora around Mt. Kailash

On the second day of making kora around Mt. Kailash, tourists will trek from Drirapuk Monastery to Zutrulpuk Monastery. It takes about 8 hours to finish the 22 kilometers trekking. This is a relatively toilsome day for tourists making kora around Mt. Kailash since we need to get adapted to an altitude difference of 762 meters in total.

On this day, tourists making kora around Mt. Kailash will witness the noted Silwutsel Charnel Ground with a lot of Marnie piles, the Footprint of Milarepa. The Dolmala Pass would be very challenging. Then we will get to the river valley of Lham Chukhir and finally get to Zutrupuk Monastery along the river valley.

Mt. Kailash Tour – Third Day of Making Kora around Mt. Kailash

On the third day of making kora around Mt. Kailash, tourists only need to trek 3 hours to Tarchen from Zutrulpuk with an altitude of 4790 meters, about 11.3 kilometers. Tourists will witness the famous Trangser Trangmar with golden and red stone cliff. The third day is much relaxing compared to the first two days.
