Gyangda County Tips – Brief Introduction

Gyangda County is located in the northeast part of Qamdo Prefecture and the east part of Tibet Autonomous Region. It covers an area of 13164.09 square kilometers. Gyantse Town is the center of Gyangda County, which is approximately 228 kilometers far from Qamdo Prefecture and about 1170 kilometers far from Lhasa City. It is about 1070 kilometers far from Chengdu City. It is not only the area where most of the ethnic minorities gather together, but also the junction area of Sichuan Province, Qinghai Province and Tibet Autonomous Region. It is also renowned as the gateway of the eastern Tibet. The famous G318 National Highway (Sichuan-Tibet Highway) is available throughout Gyangda County. So if you are traveling along Sichuan-Tibet Highway to Tibet, you may have a chance to visit Gyangda County.

Gyangda County Tips – Geography

Gyangda County is available at east longitude 97°15′~98°53′ and northern latitude 31°~32°36′. It lies in the northwest part of Qamdo Prefecture in the north part of Tibet Autonomous Region. It is situated in the east part of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau among the gorge area of Hengduan Mountain Range. The average elevation is about 3650 meters high. The lowest elevation is about 2800 meters high and the highest elevation is about 5436 meters. The terrain of Gyangda County is higher in the northwest part but lower in the southeast. The highest mountain in Gyangda County is 5300 meters.

In the east it is opposite to few counties of Sichuan Province. In the north it adjoins Yushu County of Qinghai Province. In the south it adjoins Gonggyu County. In the west it adjoins Qamdo Prefecture. The county center is approximately 223 kilometers far from Qamdo Town and about 1170 kilometers far from Lhasa City. Gyangda County stretches about 286 kilometers long from the east to the west, and about 327 kilometers long from the south to the north.

Gyangda County Tips – Climate

It is better to know what the general temperature of Gyangda County is in advance, as it is helpful to you when you pass this county during Tibet tour. The solar radiation is very strong and the duration of sunshine is very long. The highest temperature is about 28 ? and the lowest temperature is about -15?. The annual average temperature is about 4.5 ?. In January the average temperature is about -5 ?. In July the average temperature is about 13.2 ?. The annual average precipitation is about 549mm. The daily temperature difference is large but the annual temperature difference is not obvious. The dry season and the rainy season are so distinctive that the climate is good for the crop growth.

Gyangda County Tips – Attractions

Well, there are almost all amazing sceneries in everywhere in Tibet. So does Gyangda County. The high mountains, deep valleys, evergreen grasslands, and big canyons, etc, are all available in Gyangda County.

For example, there is a famous big canyon in Gyangda County. It is named Bologyirong Big Canyon. Bologyirong is located in the boundary of two villages in Gyangda County. It is about 25 kilometers far from the county center. You could easily find it while you are traveling here. On both sides of the canyon there are many steep magnificent mountains and cliffs. The widest area is about 100 meters and the narrowest space is only 2.30 meters.
