2013 Tibet Riding Tour from Litang

D9 Litang (K3100, 4014m) – Haizi Mountain (4685m) – Haizi Mountain Police Station – Deda Tunnel – Chola Village – Boge Village – Lana Mountain Tunnel – Batang (K3323, 2580m)

In general, it is approximately 187 kilometers from Litang to Batang. There are two plans from Litang to Haizi Mountain today. If you feel relaxed today, you could ride a bicycle directly from Litang to Batang. Do not stay for long around the lake at the foot of Haizi Mountain. If you feel exhausted on the way, we kindly suggest you to stay and overnight at Heni Village close to Haizi Mountain. Heni Village is about 54 kilometers far from the county center. The Heni Village Police Station is about 4 kilometers right away.

Today we will have a chance to enjoy beautiful Litang Grassland scenery, amazing Maoya Grand Grassland and a long down slope. The breathtaking sceneries are popular in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The best time to travel to those grasslands is from June to September every year.

Please pay attention to the strong wind on the plateau. It may hurt your skin and even make you down. Take care.

K3189 is the gathering place of the herdsmen nearby, which is approximately 86 kilometers far from Litang. After crossing a small bridge, we will start to ride upwards. When we reach the top of the mountain, there is about 89-kilometer long down slope in front of us. Please have a rest there and check the safety performance of your bicycle again such as the brake performance.

The Sister Lake is available about 2.5 kilometers far, which looks like a blue jewel among the mountains. There is still a long journey waiting for us, you'd better not stay for long at Sister Lake. Otherwise, you may proceed at night. It is very dangerous in Tibet plateau.

There is along steep slope from Haizi Mountain to Chola Village. Some dogs may run after you along the way. Generally speaking, we will reach Chola Village after 17:00. You may spend 1 night at Chola Village or go ahead to Batang.

Afterwards, you will ride a bicycle to cross many tunnels without light inside on the way. G318 National Highway could be appreciated at each tunnel exit. Try your best to reach Batang before the dark.

As for the accommodation, we kindly suggest you Jinyuan Hostel, about 100 meters far from Batang Filling Station. The free washing machine is provided there. You can take a shower in the hostel.

D10 Batang (K3323, 2580m) – Jinsha River Bridge (K3360, 2451m) – Hot Spring Mountain Villa (K3371, 2635m) – Haitong Army Station (K3407, 3536m) – Zongpala Mountain (4170m) – Mangkang County (K3430, 3875m)

Both of the gravel road and asphalt road are available today. It is approximately 108 kilometers long. Today we will reach Mangkang County in Tibet and have a chance to enjoy Jinsha River along the way.

Mangkang is the southeastern gate of Tibet since old times, acted as the first stop of Ancient Tea-horse Road. In the east, it originates from Batang of Sichuan Province, and ends to Deqyen of Yunnan Province in the south. Till now, it is the important junction county of Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Yunnan-Tibet Highway.

Jinsha River is the upper reach of Yangtze River of China. It originates from the north part of Geladandong Snow Mountain of Tanglha Snow Mountain of Qinghai Province.
