Tibet is actively creating itself a world-class tourism destination

Tibet keeps attracting a large number of tourists both at home and abroad with its fascinating natural scenery and cultural landscape. The highest peak above the sea level – Mt. Everest, the largest canyon in the world – Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, the holy and beautiful lakes and mountains, the unique and precious wild animals and plants, the magnificent Potala Palace and special monasteries, the ancient culture and art, as well as the traditional folk customs are of great charm for tourists all around the world.

Tibet tourism played an increasingly important role in the economic development of Tibet recent years. Tibet Autonomous Region is planning to create itself a world-class tourism destination and a series of methods are under discussion, including increase the investment in the development of Tibet tourism and introduce preferential policies on finance and tax.

According to the experts, there are three prominent problems need to be solved on the way to create Tibet a world-class tourism destination. The first one is enhance the infrastructure construction. The road condition and accommodation condition in some famous but remote scenic spots need to be improved. The second problem is the innovation in systems needs to be optimized. Some new rules and policies or promotions need to be introduced in different seasons so as to attract more tourists. The last problem is improving the service quality. Both the guides and drivers are required to accept some professional training courses so as to provide better service for tourists coming to Tibet.

To accelerate the development of Tibet tourism, related Tibet tourism departments are striving to develop the domestic travel and paying great attention to the development of inbound tourism. Tibet Tourism Bureau keeps taking full advantage of the domestic and international travel fair to make more people know more about Tibet. For instance, a series of "Tibet Folk Custom" Photo Exhibition was displayed in various domestic cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

As we all known, the number of tourists coming to Tibet is much more compared to that in the winter. To attract more tourists come to Tibet in the low season, a series of promotion activities were introduced. At the same time, the relevant departments are attaching great importance in the presentation of the traditional Tibetan culture, the folk culture streets in Lhasa, Shigatse and Gyantse are under construction. Tourists will have more chances to explore the local culture and folk customs during the Tibet tour.
