Namtso Lake will be created into a first-class demonstration spot

Namtso Lake Scenic Area was awarded as a national park in 2012. To improve the basic facilities in the scenic area, Lhasa Potala Palace Tourism Culture Group invested 21 million CNY into the first-stage basic facilities construction project. So far, the construction of the La-ken-la Mountain Pass and the Sightseeing deck has been completed.

It is reported that the number of visitors at Namtso Lake Scenic Area keeps increasing by 20 percent since it was opened to tourists in the last winter. The tourism revenue of Namtso Lake National Park also increases year by year. To better develop the tourism resource at Namtso Lake and provide better experience for visitors, the administrative office keeps investing a large sum of money and manpower into the construction and improvement of the basic service facilities in Namtso Lake National Park.

Tourists travel to Namtso Lake in this November would find that a series of basic constructions had been completed, including the gate of this scenic area, two big sized sightseeing decks, 4 small sized sightseeing decks, parking lot, plank road and the sightseeing gallery waiting station. According to the principal of Potala Palace Tourism Culture Group, the construction of the first national park in Lhasa (Namtso Lake National Park) will be centered on Namtso Lake. Namtso Lake National Park will be constructed into a real AAAAA class scenic area.

According to the planning of Lhasa Potala Palace Tourism Culture Group, the Namtso Lake National Park construction project will be divided into 3 stages. The completed Namtso Lake National Park will be composed of the Entrance Area, Comprehensive Service Center, Experience Area of the Nomadic Customs, Exhibition Region of Tibetan Cukture, Experience Area of the Plateau Lake, Relaxation Experience Area, Ecological Experience Area and some other functional areas. The road and transportation, sightseeing facilities and some other relevant supporting facilities will be greatly improved.

In earlier years, Namtso Lake would be closed in winter due to the limited road condition. The road to Namtso Lake would always be covered with thick snow in the winter season. Recent years, Namtso Lake is opened to visitors from different corners of the world even in the coldest season due to the improvement of the road condition and security measures. In the winter season between November 1st and April 30th, there is 50 percent discount in the admission tickets of Namtso Lake National Park.

Namtso Lake is widely noted as one of the three holy lakes on Tibet Plateau. It is also the highest salt water lake above the sea level. It has been a must-visit spots for tourists especially interested in the ecological tour, trekking tour and pilgrimage tour. Tourists planning to visit Namtso Lake in winter are strongly suggested to choose a good conditioned 4WD with experienced driver to cope with the slippery road in the snowing days. Besides, it is necessary to prepare warm clothes and sleeping bag for the extremely low temperature in the night if you are planning to spend a night there.
