Winter is the best season to visit Mt. Everest – the highest peak above the sea level. Actually, Mt. Everest is always hidden in the clouds or mists in the other seasons. Tourists making a Tibet tour in winter will have the chance to see the real appearance of Mt. Everest.

Tibet Tour in Winter – Magnificent Mt. Everest

Mt. Everest, also noted as Mt. Qomolangma, which means the Third Goddess in the world in Tibetan. It is the main peak of Himalays and also the highest peak above the sea level with an elevation of 8844 meters. There are 5 other peaks with an altitude of more than 8000 meters are located within 20 miles around Mt. Everest, though there are only 14 mountains in total with an altitude of higher than 8000 meters in the world. There are also numerous mountains with an altitude around 6000-7000 meters. Hence, tourists here will have the chance to witness a pretty magnificent picture composed of highest mountains above the sea level.

Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve is the highest natural reserve above the sea level. It takes about four hours to drive to Mt. Everest from Shigatse. The road condition has been greatly improved compared to the earlier years. Tourists making a Tibet tour in winter could also experience a special festal atmosphere at Rongbuk Monastery which is quite close to the Base Camp. The Tibetan New Year is not only a solemn festival for the ordinary Tibetans but also for the lamas in the monasteries. Tibet Tour in Winter – Flag-cloud on Mt. Everest

Tourists making a Tibet tour in winter and pay a visit to Mt. Everest Base Camp would be easily impressed by the flag-cloud above Mt. Everest. The flag-cloud would only show its real face on sunny days in winter. It always floats above the mountain top like a white flag. Hence, people used to call it flag-cloud. Some of the tourists who've been to the Base Camp and saw the flag-cloud held that it is really a wonderful experience to enjoy the beautiful flag-cloud under the warm and lovely sunshine in winter.

It is said the flag-cloud float above Mt. Everest is formed by the convection cumulus. The scientists could deduce the strength of the wind at the top of Mt. Everest according to the location and height of the flag-cloud. The higher the flag-cloud above the top the wind there would be weaker while the lower the flag-cloud located the wind there would be stronger. The wind force scale would be around 9 if the flag-cloud in parallel with the top of Mt. Everest.
