Qinghai-Tibet Highway is the highest highway of the world. It is originated from Xining of Qinghai Province to Lhasa City via Golmud. It is 782 kilometers long.
Started from Golmud – the second larger city of Qinghai Province, the average elevation of Qinghai-Tibet Highway is 4500 meters high.
Qinghai-Tibet Highway was constructed since 1950 and completed on 25th December, 1954. It was built by the masses and the Chinese People's Liberation Army together.
Huangyuan County is very close to Xining. Therefore tourists who depart from Xining do not overnight here.
The accommodation condition is fine in Dulan County. Most of the hostels provide the hot water and shower, and cost 50-100 RMB per person in general.
There are many hostels and hotels in Golmud City. Some of the tourists would like to stay in the hostel nearby the railway station. The hostels there cost about 150-200 RMB per person.
The Post & Telecom Hotel is the cost-effective hotel in Tuotuo River area. The army service station is also available in Tuotuo River area. It costs about 50 -100 RMB per person. But we do not suggest tourists to overnight here, as the high altitude sickness happened to tourists frequently here.
You may camp by yourselves nearby the ice-free spring area, or overnight in the hostel nearby ice-free spring. The shower may not be available here.
It is a residential area along Qinghai-Tibet Highway. There is full of army service station, highway, pump station, weather station, filling station, eateries, and stores in Wudaoliang. The accommodation condition in the army service station in Wudaoliang is very good, including gymnasium, table tennis room, snooker room, chess room, and internet room.
The accommodation condition is not as good as in Wudaoliang. The truck drivers would like to spend 1 night here, as there are many car maintenance stations.
There are few hostels nearby Tanggula Mountain Pass area and the accommodation condition is not very good. You may camp here, too.
Both of the hotels and hostels in Ando County during the peak season are difficult to book. The accommodation condition of Telecom hostel is the best one.
Tourists who already get the slight symptoms of high altitude sickness are not suggested to overnight here, as the elevation of Ando County is higher.
The accommodation condition of the hotels in Ngari Prefecture is very good. There is an individual washroom, central heating, hot water, shower, and internet, etc, in the room. The service is good, too. Ngari Hostel costs about 30-60 RMB per bed.
Or you may overnight in the Tibetan yurt. The accommodation condition is not very good, but you may have a chance to enjoy the daily life of local Tibetans.
There are few hotels and hostels in Dangxong County. The accommodation condition is fine.
There are some hostels and hotels available nearby Yampachen hot spring. The army service station is also available.
Well, Lhasa is the central city of Tibet. You can check one hotel as you wish in and the accommodation condition is fine. Foreigners could not leave the hostels in Lhasa city in general.
