The scenery along Qinghai-Tibet Highway is magnificent and amazing. Tourists could have a chance to enjoy the grassland, salt lake, Gobi Desert, and high mountains, etc. Qinghai-Tibet Highway is open to traffic all the year round, and it is the busiest highway of the other 3 highways. There are 4 highways lead to Tibet region in total.
The buses in Xining are usually leaving for Gansu Province, but few of them are operated between Xining and Golmud, Chaka, etc. The tickets are not bought easily in the peak season of Tibet tour. You may take the long-distance bus to Tar Monastery – one of the famous scenic spot along Qinghai-Tibet Highway at long-distance bus station in Xining.
Or you could rent a car in Xining. It costs about 700-800 RMB every day.
You could take the suburb bus to Huangyuan County from Xining at Xining Railway Station. It operates at 7:30 am every day and ends 6:00 pm. It costs 6 RMB per person. In addition, you could also take the bus to Xihai Town, Wulan, Dulan, and Qinghai Lake, etc, via Huangyuan County.
Dulan County has a very convenient transportation system. 109 National Highway is available throughout the entire region of Dulan County. The road is available in each village road. The regular bus is operated between Xining and Dulan County every morning at 8 am. It is approximately 428 kilometers long from Dulan County Xining to Dulan County.
Golmud City is the way which must be passed to Tibet and Dunhuang. It is the last largest city on the way from Qinghai Province to Tibet. Many tourists would like to spend 1 day here for rest and supplies.
Golmud Airport is located about 12 kilometers southwest far from the city center. There is not a regular bus to the airport. You may take a taxi to the airport from the city center. It costs about 15 RMB. The airline is available everyday from Golmud to Xining, which the Golmud-Xining airline is available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and the Xi'an-Xining-Golmud airline is available on Thesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Tourists could board the Qinghai-Tibet train in Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xining, Lanzhou, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. It is approximately 814 kilometers long from Xining to Golmud. People could take the taxi to Xining from Golmud and then board the train. Besides, there are two regular buses available every day between Golmud and Xining.
In addition, the regular bus is available between Xining to Lhasa, too.
Dachaidan is situated in the northern Qinghai Province. It adjoins Gansu Province in the north. You could get into Sinkiang to the west, Gansu Province to the north, Tibet to the south, and Xining to the east. It usually takes about 10 hour driving from Xining to Dachaidan.
The trains to Lanzhou, Xining, Golmud and Lhasa are available in Delingha railway station. The transportation is convenient.
Wudaoliang is located in the middle part of Qinghai-Tibet Highway. The winter is very long and cold. Wudaoliang is characteristic of the lack of the oxygen and terrible climate. It is 4665 meters high.
Tuotuo River is the lowest place from Kunlun Mountain Pass to the Tanggula Mountain Pass. Therefore the climate is relatively better.
Different bus and cars are available from Ngari Prefecture to Lhasa city. Tourists could get some supplies in Ngari Railway Station.
Dangxong County is situated between Lhasa city and Ngari Prefecture. It is regarded as the northern gate of Lhasa city. The regular buses are operated between Dangxong County and Lhasa City.
Yampachen is situated between Lhasa and Namtso Lake. There are many buses between Yampachen and Lhasa city. You may enjoy the hot spring in Yampachen scenic spot. It costs about 98 RMB per person.
Lhasa City is the traffic center of Tibet Autonomous Region. Both of Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Qinghai-Tibet Highway are available throughout Lhasa City.
