Tang – Bo Ancient Road is originated from the capital of Tang Dynasty, Changan (Xian of Shanxi Province) to Lhasa City of Tubo Dynasty, by way of Shanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and Tibet region. It is approximately 3000 kilometers long, and most of them are available in Qinghai Province.
Based on the current route of Tang – Bo Ancient Road, the section of Tang – Bo Ancient Road in Qinghai Province is also a part of G214 National Highway, originated from Xining, Huangyuan, Daotang River, Heka, Hot Spring, Huashi Gorge,Huangheyan, Qingshui River, Xiewu, Gyegu, Nangqyan, and Dopma, to Riwoqe of Qamdo Prefecture of Tibet region. It is approximately 1111 kilometers long in Qinghai Province.
After arriving in Riwoqe, there are two ways lead to Lhasa City. One way stretches to Lhasa City via Tingqing County and Soxan County. It connects to G214 National Highway in Ngari Prefecture. It is about 969 kilometers long. The other way stretches to Lhasa City via Qamdo Prefecture along Sichuan – Tibet Highway. It is about 1086 kilometers long.
It is approximately 107.86 kilometers long in total. It takes about 6 hours and 20 minutes riding. It is asphalt road from Xining to Daotang River. From Xining to Huangyuan it is about 54 kilometers long and there are some gentle up slopes on the way. From Huangyuan to Riyue Mountain it is about 38 kilometers long and there are some steep up slopes. From Riyue Mountain to Daotang River it is about 13 kilometers long and there are some steep up slopes, too.
It is approximately 122.34 kilometers far from Daotang River to Heima River. It takes about 6 hours and 20 minutes riding, too. It is asphalt road along the way. From Daotang River to Jiangxigo it is about 74 kilometers long and there are some gentle up and down slopes. From Jiangxigo to Heima River it is about 48 kilometers long and there are up and down slopes, too.
It is approximately 157.69 kilometers far from Heima River to Hargai. It usually takes 7 hours and 20 minutes riding along the way. From Heima River to Shinaihai it is about 38 kilometers long and there is level road. From Shimahai to Gangcha it is about 50 kilometers and there are some gravel roads and level roads. From Gangcha to Quanji it is about 15 kilometers long and there are some gentle up and down slopes. From Quanji to Hargai it is about 45 kilometers long and there are some gentle up and down slopes, too.
It is about 147.70 kilometers long in total today. It usually takes about 7 hours and 50 minutes riding on the way. From Hargai to Xihai Town it is about 62 kilometers. From Xihai Town to Huanghu Eastern Road it is about 58 kilometers long. From Huanghu Eastern Road to Daotang River it is about 27 kilometers long. There are all asphalt roads today and the road condition is fine.
