Inquiry about Mt. Kailash Kora

Q: How many days when kora around Mt. Kailash? How many days to trek to Mt. Kailash?

Jessie: It usually takes 3 days for Mt. Kailash Kora. The 1st day starts from Darchen and will end at Darchen on the 3rd day. During the Mt. Kailash trekking, we will circumambulate the mountain by yaks with the help of Yak workers. Our circumambulation route is Darchen-Lhach Valley–Chorten - Darboche Flag Pole–Seshon–Chugu Monastery– Drire Monastery–Sky Burial Lacation–Dromala Mountain Pass–Menchug River- Drucu Monastery–Exit–Darchen.

The 1st day we will start the kora from Darchen to Drirapuk. It is about 15 kilometers trekking. Firstly we will put the necessary heavy things on the yaks with the help of yak workers. After about 2-2.5 hours hiking, we can have a rest and acclimatize ourselves in the midway, and drink some water. Next we will reach Drirapuk for camping after another 2-2.5 hours trekking.

The 2nd day we will pass Dromala Mountain Pass which is about 5300 meters high. After taking a rest at the peak of Dromala Mountain Pass , you will trek down to Lhachu valley after 1-1.5 hours. And then we can finally reach today's destination - Dzultripuk after another 1-2 hours trekking.

Tips: it is better to depart early and reach the destination early as the rooms of the guesthouse there are very limited, and they can not be booked in advance.

The 3rd day: We will get back to Darchen from Dzultripuk today.

Q: Is it probably can buy food on the way during Kora, and is it hygienic?

Jessie: How to say, I will kindly suggest tourists to take a big warm bottle with full of water before Mt. Kailash kora starts during Tibet tour, as the health condition during the kora is not, very healthy. The general living environment is rough and hard. No high buildings or better hotels there. To protect the wild nature as well as the religious affection of Mt. Kailash, Ngari Prefecture (Ali) is a place forgotten by most of people who prefer to see the beautiful trees and rivers. That is also one of the reasons why so many people who love to explore the unknown places throughout the world to come here. And, it is not possible to buy food in the midway. We usually ask one cook to go with our guests to cook for them, because there is no hot water during the three days while Mt. Kailash Kora.
