Lhasa-Zham Port Tour

Zham Port

Lhasa – Shigatse

We will leave Lhasa for Yamdrok Lake through Gambarak Mountain Pass (4780 meters above the sea level) after breakfast. Yamdrok Lake is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. It covers an area of 638 square kilometers with an altitude of 4441 meters. The landscapes of mountains and lakes here tops in southern Tibet. When we watch it on the top of a mountain, the water seems totall shining blue. It looks like a piece of charming blue silk. When we walk around the Yamdrok Lake, the water colors changes to green. It looks like a shining green pearl among the mountains on plateau. It is amazing, right? That is why we call Yamdrok Lake "the Lake of different color".

Then we will set out for Shigatse, via Karo-la Glacier and Manla Reservoir (Lake Manasarovar) and make a visit to Palkhor Monastery in Gyantse on the way to Shigatse, which is the biggest city in Tsang.

Shigatse – Sakya Monastery – Xegar (300 km)

We will make a visit to Sakya Monastery on our way to Xegar in the morning. Sakya Monastery is the main monastery of Sakya Sect with a history of more than 900 years. It collected rich historical and cultural relics, among which the Buddhism scriptures are most noted.

Xegar – Mt. Everest Camp – Xegar

We will drive to Mt. Everest Base Camp after breakfast. We will make a visit to Rongbuk Monastery – the highest monastery above the sea level. Rongbuk Monastery is a special monastery belongs to Nyingma Sect. Both the monks and nuns live in the monastery. It is 5100 meters above the sea level and is only about 20 kilometers away from the top of Mt. Everest. Tourists can take an eco-car there or trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp. It is the best place to appreciate the landscape of Mt. Everest. Then we will back to Xegar along the same route.

Xegar – Zham Port

We will drive to Zham Port along the international road of China and Nepal. Zham is located on the boundary of China and Nepal with an altitude of 2000 meters. It is an important trade port, which is only 120 kilometers away from Kathmandu – capital of Nepal. We will help you to deal with the customs formalities. After that, you will cross the Freindship Bridge to reach Nepalese border. You should apply for your Nepalese visa at the custom nearby the bridge. Then walk along a slope on the side to take the car to Kathmandu - the capital of the Kingdom of Nepal. It is only 120 kilometers far from the Zham Port to Kathmandu. It will take you about 4-5 hours driving as the road condition is too bad alongt the way.

Leave Tibet
