India Travel Tips - Religion

In India, the widows are not allowed to point the auspicious nevus in face, as they are regarded as the ill-omened people.

When you enter temples in India, you are required to take off your shoes whoever you are. This is the way of respecting the God. Anyway you could ask somebody to keep your shoes for a while paying a little service charge, before you entering.

If you are a lady, we kindly suggest you do not wear the silk stockings, as it is usually tipped after a while walking.

India Travel Tips - Electric power standard

In India, the Ac voltage is 220 v, the electric frequency is 50hz. You'd better take a plug adapter as there is only two hole socket of round shape.

India Travel Tips - Working Hour

Indians are usually working from Monday to Friday. The bank is usually closed in Saturday.

The government office working time is: 9:00 - 13:00, 14:00 - 17:30

The business office working time is: 9:00 - 13:00, 14:00 - 17:00.

India Travel Tips - Currency

The India currency, rupee, is not allowed to be taken in or abroad. When you travel out of India, the number of foreign currency should be lesser than recorded when you got in.

When you stay in India, you have to pay for the hotel fare by your currency, which is required.

India Travel Tips - Tip

10% of service charge would be calculated when you pay in restaurant, no more tips. In some high-class hotels, 7% of luxury taxes will be required. When you ask for the package service in airport or railway station, you could pay 1 INR to the counter, no additional tips to attendant. But of course, the tips are given as you wish.

You are kindly suggested not to buy food from the small stall keeper. And do remember to boil the tap water firstly as it is not safe to drink directly. Actually, some travel agencies will offer tourists one bottle of mineral water/p.p per day.

China Mobile (GMS) is available to use in India. And there are plenty of small houses signed STD/ISD/FAX will offer the communication service.

India Travel Tips - Photography Terms

You will be asked for the photographic fare if you take a photo in such castles, or tombs. For example, even you paid the additional entrance fare for the Taj Mahal, the places for you to photographing is very limited. The places allowed to take a photo usually a little far from the main building of Taj Mahal.

In additional, the Red Fort in Delhi, Taj Mahal in Agra and the temples in Khajuraho are not allowed to use tripod. Therefore, you should take another kind of stuff instead in case you need it. And you may be asked for money if you use digital camera.

Taking a photo may be totally refused in some places, such as the Palace situated at the bank of Varanasi Ganges River, Burning Ghat.

India Travel Tips - Public Toilet

It is some kind of difficult to find a public toilet in India. If you are really emergency, go to find the Mcdonald's.
