Detailed Schedule for Self-riding Tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp

To save more energy to cope with the high altitude and poor road condition between Tingri and Mt. Everest, a large number of tourists making a self-riding tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp would like to take a vehicle to Tingri from Lhasa. Before get to Tingri, tourists could adjust themselves to the high plateau environment gradually while sightseeing from Lhasa to Shigatse. The beautiful Yamdrok Lake and a series of cultural sites would always make tourists have a good mood. Generally, it takes about 2.5 days to get to Tingri from Lhasa by vehicle. To cut down the transportation cost, tourists making a self-riding tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp could share a vehicle with tourists have the same plan.

Day1, Arrive in Tingri

Prepare the necessary stuffs at Tingri County Seat, the last county seat before heading to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Enough beverage and solid food should be prepared. The self-riding tourists could also get some information regarding the climate condition and road condition to Mt. Everest Base Camp from Tibetans living in the county seat since they could collect a lot of relevant information from tourists back to Tingri from the Base Camp.

Day2, Tingri - Lulu Border Inspection Station - Mt. Everest Toll Station - Wuming Base Camp

Tourists making a self-riding tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp have to finish 30 kilometers today, which means tourists would be involved in riding for around 10 hours. There is no village between the Mt. Everest Toll Station and the Wuming Base Camp. And it would be pretty toilsome after the Toll Station due to the high altitude and low oxygen content.

Day3, Wuming Base Camp - Tashi Zong

It takes around 10 hours riding to finish the 30 kilometers between the Wuming Base Camp and Tashi Zong. Tourists making a self-riding tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp have to ride on the upward slope in the first half of the day and it would be relatively easier in the afternoon since tourists would ride along the downhill road. The hot water supply is available in the villages. The guest house and restaurant providing Sichuan flavor food are available at Tashi Zong.

Day4, Tashi Zong - Rongbuk Monastery

It is about 45 kilometers between Tashi Zong and Rongbuk Monastery and it takes about 11 hours riding. There is village providing boiled water on the way. After arrive in Rongbuk Monastery, tourists making a self-riding tour could choose to stay overnight in the guesthouse or camp on your own.

Day5, Rongbuk Monastery – Mt. Everest Base Camp

It is only 8 kilometers between Rongbuk Monastery and Mt. Everest Base Camp. But tourists making a self-riding tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp have to take about 3 hours riding to finish this journey due to the poor road condition and high altitude. Mt. Everest Base Camp has an altitude of 5200 meters. Spend a night at the Base Camp must be a special life experience. The amazing sunset landscape and sunrise landscape here always leave visitors deep impression.
