Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival

Ngari Travel Information 2013 - Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival

According to the Tourism Bureau of Ngari Prefecture, the 5th Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival in Ngari will be celebrated in August in 2013. The celebration of the Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival aims at transmitting the Ngari culture and making visitors from different corners of the world know more about Ngari. This tourism festival also plays an important role in promoting the tourism industry in Ngari Prefecture.

Shang-shung was a kingdpm in the ancient Tibet. It was united by Songtsen Gampo of Tubo Kingdom in 7th century. According to the archeological discovery, the capital city of the ancient Shang-shung Kingdom was at the Shangquan river basin, which is the cradle land of the profound local religion, characters and medicinal culture. The Shang-shung culture plays important role in the mysterious Tibetan civilization. It is reported that a series of interesting programs will be involved in the celebration of the coming Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival in August, including the photographing competition, tourism culture forum and tourist souvenir competition. Introduction & promotion of the tourism products in Ngari Prefecture will also be an important part of the Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival.

Among all large-scale cultural tourism festivals in Tibet, the Shang-shung Cultural Tourism Festival is the youngest one, but it has been an important driving force in the tourism development on Ngari Plateau. Ngari Prefecture has rich natural and cultural tourism resources, including the Mt. Kailash which is highly respected as the holy center of the world by the devout followers of Bon, Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism. The Lake Manasarovar which is not far away from the Holy Mountain has also been regarded as a holy lake. A large number of pilgrims from different corners of the world would come here for pilgrimage between May and September every year. The magnificent Tsaparang also attracts a large quantity of tourists and researchers.

Ngari Travel Information 2013 – Tourist Bus in Ngari

To meet the demand of tourists planning a visit to Ngari Prefecture during their Tibet tour, a fleet composed of 10 tourism buses will start to provide service for tourists in 2013. The Holy Mountain – Mt. Kailash in Ngari Prefecture with an altitude of 6656 meters is the highest scenic area opened to visitors in China. Running in Ngari Plateau, which is praised as the Roof of the Roof of the World, is a great challenge for the tourism buses. It is said that the 10 new tourism buses planning to be put into operation in 2013 could better cope with the special road condition and natural environment in Ngari Prefecture.

With an average altitude of more than 4500 meters, Ngari Prefecture is located in western Tibet and the roads in Ngari are always blocked due to the changeable climate. There are only about 3 months suitable for vehicle driving in a year. Besides, it involves a large amount of transportation cost if tourists rent a vehicle to Ngari from Lhasa. The 10 new tourist buses could better meet the demand of tourists in the peak season with a more reasonable price.
