Self-driving Tour to Nyingchi – Road Condition

Bayi Town in Nyingchi Prefecture is about 410 kilometers away from Lhasa. It takes about 5 hours to complete the driving journey to Nyingchi from Lhasa. As an important part of State Highway G318, Lhasa-Nyingchi section enjoys a pretty good road condition. Tourists making a self-driving tour to Nyingchi in the dry season don't need to be over worried about the road condition. But in the rainy season, some sections of the road might be influenced by the natural disasters, such as land slide.

Tourists planning a self-driving tour to Nyingchi should prepare warm clothes for the Mila Mountain Pass with an altitude of 5013 meters. Most tourists would like to take a short stop at the mountain pass to enjoy the amazing snow view and take some beautiful pictures. For tourists willing to extend their driving tour to Ranwu Lake and Milin, it is advisable to use a good conditioned 4WD. Ranwu Lake is about 400 meters away from Nyingchi while Milin is about 74 kilometers away from Bayi Town. There is also a number of domestic tourists would like to visit Shannan firstly and then drive to Nyingchi from Tsedang. It should be noted that the road section of the Tsedang-Nyingchi Road is pretty limited and the road condition is even worse in the rainy days.

Self-driving Tour to Nyingchi – Must-visit Sites

Nyingchi is widely noted for its breathtaking natural landscapes. It is reported that spring and autumn are the best seasons for sightseeing in Nyingchi. The peach blossom view in between March and early April would attract a large number of visitors both at home and abroad every year. Both the Peach Blossom Village in Nyingchi County and the Peach Blossom Valley in Bome County are good spots for enjoying the peach blossom view. In addition, there is also beautiful peach blossom view on both sides of the sections of the State Highway G318 in Nyingchi Prefecture.

Niyang Pavilion, which is also noted as the Southeast Tibet Nonmaterial Culture Museum, is quite close to Bayi Town in Nyingchi. It has been a must-visit site in Nyingchi for it collects rich historical and cultural relics which allow visitors to look into the traditional culture and folk customs in southeastern Tibet. Besides, Niyang Pavilion is stands by the famous Niyang River, visitors here could climb up to the top floor to take an overview of the fantastic natural view. For tourists planning a self-driving to Nyingchi and especially interested in the natural views, Baksumtso Lake and Ranwu Lake are two must-visit sites. Both the two lakes enjoy high reputation among visitors for its religious status and gorgeous lake view.

In addition, Lulang Forest Sea and Nayi Valley are also selected as must-visit sites for their fantastic idyllic view. Tourists made a self-driving tour to Nyingchi were always impressed by the idyllic view composed of Tibetan style houses and farming land. It takes about two hours to drive to Nanyi Valley from Bayi Town.
