Attractions of Yunnan-Tibet Highway – Dali Introduction

Dali is located in the west part of Yunnan Province about 2090 meters high. It adjoins Lijiang City to the north. Dali lies in the lower latitude plateau and features the plateau monsoon climate. The dry season and wet season are both distinguished obviously. Dali is actually well known for the breathtaking natural sceneries and the attractive ethnic minority national customs. The top 3 attractions in Dali are Butterfly Spring, Erhai, and Three Pagodas of Chong Sheng Temple. They are the representatives of Dali attractions. Attractions of Yunnan-Tibet Highway – Dali History

Acted as one of the earliest cultural birthplaces of Yunnan Province, many historical ruins of the Neolithic Age have been found around the plateau lakes nearby Erhai. According to the historical record, the ancestors of Baizu people and Lizu People have created the ancient culture related to the fishing and hunting, and Animal Husbandry, etc, in Dali.

There were actually 3 transitory Kingdoms in Dali Area from AD 902 to AD 937. During the period of Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty, Dali once acted as the way which must be passed from Chengdu to Burma and India.

Dali Airport is situated in the junction of Fengyi Town and Haidong Village, about 12 kilometers far from the city center. There are some direct flights to and from Dali such as Kunming, Xishuangbanna, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu, etc. You could take a taxi to the airport from the downtown and it costs you about 60 RMB.

Dali Railways Station is located in Yunling Avenue. You could take No. 7 Bus, No. 10 Bus and No. 11 Bus there. There are 4 regular buses operated between Dali and Kunming every day. The timetable is 10:10, 21:40, 22:20 and 23:00. It is approximately 359 kilometers long. The hard seat costs about 70 RMB.

Besides, there are 3 long-distance passenger stations in Dali. They are respectively Dali Passenger Station, Xiaguan Passenger Station, and Dayun Passenger Station. Dali Passenger Station is the largest long-distance passenger station. It is located at No. 21 of Construction Road across from Minsheng Shopping Mall. There are 4 regular buses operated between Dali and Lijiang every day. The timetable is 8:30, 9:30, 14:00 and 19:00. It usually takes about 3 hours and a half. The regular buses between Dali and Shangri-la usually operated at 9:00 in the morning.

The shape of Erhai looks like an ear and covers 250 square kilometers. When the water is shining in the sun and the magnificent shadow of Cang Mountain is reflected on it, Erhai surprised people a sheet of vivid green oil painting.

Dali Ancient Town was firstly established in AD 1382. It was surrounded by a moat. The architecture of Dali Ancient Town is characteristic of a typical layout of a chessboard. The buildings in Dali Ancient Town are almost constructed with the dark blue tiles and the while and gray tall walls.
