The period between July and September is the beautiful season of Namtso Lake with blue water, green grassland and colorful wild flowers. Tourists planning a Namtso trekking tour during this period should note that the road condition is relatively poor since it rains frequently.

The lake shoreline of Namtso Lake is about 280 kilometers and the rough road around the lake is about 320 kilometers. Generally, tourists making a Namtso trekking tour have to take 7-10 days to finish the circumambulation around the lake. Tourists planning to circumambulate Namtso Lake with a vehicle are highly advised to ask a local Tibetan to be your guide since there are many sideways. It takes about 2 days to drive around the lake.

Tourists planning a Namtso trekking tour are highly advised to get a good adaptation and make a good preparation in Lhasa before heading to Namtso Lake. Tourists have to trek for several hours in an environment with an altitude of more than 4500 meters. Generally, tourists with a good physical condition needs 8-10 days while tourists with a relatively poor physical condition needs about 15 days.

Lake Namtso is a salt water lake and the replenishment is pretty poor in the sparsely populated area around the holy lake. A large number of tourists planning a Namtso trekking tour would like to spend their first night on Tashi Island and then circumambulate around Tashi Island and Yaowang Hill. It should be noted that the local Tibetans would circumambulate the island for odd circles (generally 13) and then make kora around Yaowang Hill according to their age clockwise. Currently, a large number of Tibetans prefer to make kora around Tashi Island rather than circumambulate around Namtso Lake.

Tourists making a Namtso trekking tour could wash your face at the East Bathing Gate of Tashi Island. Some of the local Tibetans would also throw some precious things with their wishes into the lake and most of them would throw Hada into the lake.

Tourists planning a Namtso trekking tour are not advised to realize the trip between November and April of the coming year since Namtso might be closed due to the severe cold weather and frequent snow in the consideration of tourists' health.
