Tibet tourism develops with great momentum at the opening of the peak season 2013. It is reported that Tibet has received 300,599 visitors and realized a total tourism revenue of 300.26 million RMB in the first quarter of 2013.

Statistics show that Tibet has obtained quick results from the series of introduction and promotion activities regarding the Tibet tour products in winter held in different domestic cities in China. The special cultural and natural tourism products carried out in the winter season attracted a large number of tourists both at home and abroad successfully in the last winter. The relevant tourism departments in Tibet are planning to accelerate the marketing of Tibet tour products in 2013. Except for enhancing the media publicity, Tibet is also planning to complete its basic public service facilities (especially the service facilities in the scenic spots). For instance, some standard shopping sites will be constructed around the scenic spots so as to provide convenience for tourists. Great efforts will also be spent in the service quality in tourism industry since this April.

Noted as the cradle land of Tibet civilization, Shannan Prefecture also enjoys a good opening in tourism industry in the first quarter of 2013. It is reported that Shannan Prefecture has received 96,404 visitors from different corners of the world in the first four months in 2013 and a total tourism revenue of 39.56 million RMB has been realized. Shannan enters into its high season in April and the number of visitors coming to Shannan keeps increasing rapidly. The most noted cultural sites in Shannan Prefecture, such as Yumbu Lakhang, Trandruk Monastery and Samye Monastery will be crowded with tourists till the end of October.

Nagqu Prefecture in northern Tibet also received a large number of tourists in the first quarter of 2013. According to statistics provided by Nagqu Tourism Bureau, Nagqu has received 46,823 visitors in the first four months of 2013 and that increased 1.8 percent compared to the same period of last year. Acts as the most famous scenic spot in Nagqu Prefecture, Namtso Lake was closed to tourists in winter in earlier years. But in the first period of 2013, Lake Namtso was opened to visitors as the other seasons for relevant measures were adopted to ensure the transportation to this scenic spot with high altitude.

Shigatse is a must-visit region in Tibet. Both its cultural landscape and natural scenery are of great attraction for tourists coming to Tibet. The world famous Mt. Everest Base Camp is especially suitable for sightseeing in April for the strong visibility in the pleasant weather. To provide more convenience for tourists planning to pay a visit to Shigatse, Shigatse Peace Airport has opened the direct flight between Shigatse and Chengdu. Tourists planning a Tibet tour from Chengdu will have one more choice in transportation. It takes less than 2.5 hours to get to Shigatse from Chengsu by air. Please note that this flight will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
