Construction of Gongjue Lingka

Gongjue Lingka was built in the fifth year of Daoguan Period in Qing Dynasty. It was built by imitating Norbulingka by the seventh Panchen Beinima. The summer palace of Panchen was built in Gongjue Lingka. It was named Deji Scripture Hall. Later, it was renamed Gongjuelin Palace since Emperor Daoguang wrote the horizontal inscribed board with golden words of "Gongjuelin Palace" in Tibetan Language, Chinese, Mongolian and Manchu Language. In the Gongjuelin Palace, there were scripture halls, golden halls, Dharma Temple and other architectures. In 1954, Gongjuelin Palace was destroyed by flood. The state appropriated funds and built Deqing Gesang Pozhang. Hence, the Deqin Gesang Pozhang is also named New Palace of Panchen. The new palace is located at southwest of Shigatse. It covers about 500,000 square meters. The main architectures include living room of Panchen Lama, office, 5 large and small scripture halls and 100 Buddha statues. The architectural style of new palace integrated tradition and modern together. It is not only simple and unsophisticated, but also grand and beautiful. In the palace, there are lush trees and beautiful flowers. The scenery in the palace is very beautiful.

At the first gate of Gongjue Lingka, there are four octagonal vermilion columns at the eave, and the door is carved with patterns of wild beats, curled-up dragons and flowers. On the two sides of the door, there are colorful paintings of cirrus clouds, fierce tigers, dragons, figures, blooming flowers, lush grass and frescos of Buddhism stories. The second gate of Gongjue Lingka is the ante courtyard of New Palace. The front side is the splendid and imposing New Palace. In June of each year, people in Shigatse will hold grand activities in the Lingka. This festival is named "Lingka Festival"
