Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet

Tibet Kongpu Gyangda County is located in the northwest part of Nyingchi Prefecture and the middle-upper reaches of Niyang River. It is the western gateway of Nyingchi Prefecture of Tibet region. It is regarded as the important transportation junction of Sichuan-Tibet Highway, and the only way which must be passed from Lhasa city to Nyingchi Prefecture in Tibet. The National Road 318 is available throughout Kongpu Gyangda County.

Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet – Highlights

Kongpu Gyangda County is located in southeast part in Tibet Autonomous Region, the south part of Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain, and the north part of Yarlung Zangbo River. It is border on Bome and Nyingchi town in the east, Milin County, Gyatsa County, and Sangri County in the south. It adjoins Motsu Kongka County in the west, and closes to Gyali County in the north.

Kongpu Gyangda County covers an area of 12886 square kilometers in total. It stretches about 180 kilometers long from the east to the west, and approximately 71 kilometers long from the south to the north.

Niyang River is the mother river of people in Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet. It is 307.5 kilometers long in total and originated from Mila Mountain of this county. It flows through Kongpu Gyangda County and Baipa town of Nyingchi Prefecture and then flows into Yarlung Zangbo River in Mirui village in Nyingchi Prefecture. The headstream of Niyang River is about 5000 meters high and surrounded by thick forests and mountains.

Due to the complicated geographic position and terrain, Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet features the plateau temperature semi-humid monsoon climate. There is a lot of rainfall in Kongpu Gyangda County. The mean annual temperature is about 8.3?. The frostless period is about 156 days and the annual sunshine duration is about 2016 hours.

In addition, the unique climate of Kongpu Gyangda County is good for the growth of the medical materials, such as Chinese caterpillar fungus, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Fritillaria, Ganoderma lucidum, Rhodiola, Rhizoma coptidis, and Rhubarb, etc.

There are 56 scenic spots in Kongpu Gyangda County, including the natural scenic spots and cultural scenic spots. The famous attractions of Kongpu Gyangda County are Baksumtso Lake, Ancient Taizhao Town, and Bangye Grassland,etc.

Baksumtso Lake

Baksumtso Lake is located in the northeast part of Kongpu Gyangda County, about 83 kilometers away from the town center of Kongpu Gyangda County. It is one of the fresh water lakes of eastern Tibet. In summer, the surface of the lake is about 3472 meters high. The average elevation of Baksumtso Lake is about 3465 meters high and features the shape of the crescent. It is about 15 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide. Baksumtso Lake covers an area of 37500 square kilometers in total. The average depth of the lake is over 60 meters. Baksumtso Lake is nonfreezing in the whole year and the color of the water is distinctive when the sceneries around the lake changes.

Ancient Taizhao Town

Ancient Taizhao Town is located along the National Way 318, about 3550 meters high. It is about 24 kilometers away from the center of Kongpu Gyangda County. Ancient Taizhao Town could be date back to 2000 years ago. It was not only the commercial and cultural center in Tibet region, but also the important strategic location.

Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet – Folk Custom

There are many minorities living in Kongpu Gyangda County in Tibet Autonomous Region, such as Tibetan people, Menpa people, and Lopa people. The major festivals are Kongpu Festival, Tibetan New Year, Kongpu Circumambulate around the lake, and circumambulate around the mountain, etc. The folk customs include many local sports such as horse racing and shooting. Both of the girls and boys are good at dancing with the arrow and it is the most popular in the folk customs in Kongpu Gyangda County.
