Namlin County in Tibet – Brief Introduction

Namlin County is situated in the middle and upper reach of Yarlung Zangbo River, the northeast part of Shigatse Prefecture and the middle-south part of Tibet Autonomous Region. It covers an area of 8113 square kilometers. It is available in eastern longitude 88°46′-90° and northern latitude 29°18′-30°18′. In the east, it adjoins the Nyemu County. In the west, it adjoins Shetongmen County in Tibet. In the north, it connects to Shenzha County and Banga County. In the southeast part, it adjoins Renpu County. The county center is approximately 76 kilometers far from Shigatse Prefecture, and about 308 kilometers far from Lhasa City. Namlin County stretches about 98 kilometers long from the east to the west, and about 110 kilometers long from the south to the north. It covers an area of 8113 square kilometers.

Namlin County in Tibet – Climate

Namlin County is located in the river valley area of the east part of the Gangdisê Mountains and the north river bank of the middle and upper reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River. The terrain of Namlin County is higher in the northeast part but lower in the southwest part. Most of the high mountains are available from the north to the south in Namlin County. The average elevation is about 3790 – 4901 meters high. It is characteristic of the Inland arid climate. The solar radiation is very strong and the daily temperature difference is obviously large. The dry season and the wet season are both so distinctive that the climate is good for the crop growth. The average temperature in spring and winter in Namlin County is about 6 ?. The annual average temperature is about 10.4 ? in Namlin County. The highest temperature usually appears in July and it is about 25.3 ?. The lowest temperature usually appears in June and it is about -15.7 ?. The annual precipitation is about 250-470mm. The frostless period lasts about 95-125 days.

Namlin County in Tibet – Geography

Most of the geographic locations of Namlin County are over 3790 meters high. It consists of high mountains, deep valleys, large lakes, ancient glaciers, and sand dunes. The Kangzongma Peak is the highest point of Namlin County. It is about 6043 meters high and covered with the snow the whole year round. It looks like an ice queen standing over the Namlin County. Besides, the confluence of Shangqyu River and Yarlung Zangbo River is the lowest place of Namlin County. It is only 3704 meters high. The height difference is about 2339 meters. Both of the hillside and the river valley stretch from the south to the north in Namlin County. Most of the bedrocks of the mountains in the south are exposed and the land surface is wind erosion.

Namlin County in Tibet – Religion

Well, as you may know, Tibet is a place where all of the residents believe in religions. Most of the Tibetans believe in Tibet Buddhism but few of them believe in other religious sects. However, you will have a chance to enjoy many different monasteries along the way to Tibet.
