Weather Condition and Tibet Tour Season

Tibet has a large territory, but the terrain in various regions is quite different. Tourists planning a Tibet tour have to choose a relatively better tour season due to the special geographical environment and transportation condition in Tibet.

Generally, the period between July and September is regarded as the best season of Tibet tour. The middle part and eastern part of China are in hot summer during that period while Tibet is pretty cool for its high altitude. Tourists making a Tibet tour in this period could enjoy a pleasant climate and fresh air. Most regions of Tibet are located on the plateau with strong ultraviolet radiation, long sunshine duration and low average temperature. The topography in southeastern Tibet is very complicated and the road condition would be relatively poorer in the rainy season. Tourists planning a self-driving tour are strongly suggested to avoid the rainy season.

Weather Condition and Tibet Tour Season – Lhasa & Tsedang

The scenic spots in Tibet are quite far away from each other. Different spots have their own best tour season for their different locations and climate characteristics. The basic service facilities in Lhasa, Tsedang and Shigatse are relatively better than the other regions in Tibet. These cities and towns are suitable for sightseeing all year around for the weather condition would not be too bad and the road condition are always good. Actually, most scenic spots in Lhasa, Tsedang and Shigatse are historical and cultural spots which would be influenced by the natural climate rarely. In addition, there would be certain discount in the admission ticket of the scenic spots, the hotel room and transportation tickets. The bright sunshine in Tibet in winter always makes visitors be reluctant to leave.

Weather Condition and Tibet Tour Season – Nyingchi

Nyingchi is widely noted as the Switzerland on Tibet Plateau for its fascinating natural landscapes. With an average altitude around 2500 meters, Nyingchi is suitable for sightseeing all year around. The road condition between Lhasa and Nyingchi is pretty good and it takes about 8 hours to finish the journey. For tourists especially interested in the natural scenery in Nyingchi, spring and autumn are the best tour season. The picturesque peach blossoms all over the mountains and valleys in Nyingchi between March and April attract a large number of tourists from different corners of the world. Between October and November, the colorful mountain landscapes always leave tourists' deep impression.

Weather Condition and Tibet Tour Season – Shigatse & Ngari

Tourists planning a Kathmandu tour from Tibet should note that the road between Tingri and Zhangmu might be blocked by snow between December and January due to the cold weather. For tourists list the Everest Base Camp as a must-visit site, the period between April and June and the period between September and October are the best season for appreciating a clear view of Mt. Everest. The best season to choose the Lhasa-Zhangmu route is between May and October. But it rains frequently in August and the landslide happens frequently in that month. Tourists making a Nepal tour from Tibet could apply for the Nepal Visa in Lhasa or apply for the Arrival Viasa at the border.

Tourists making an Ngari tour are always surprised by the magnificent plateau landscapes there. The weather and road condition would be relatively better between May and September. For tourists planning to make kora around Mt. Kailash should make this trip between May and July in consideration of the weather condition.
