Tibetan Argali Sheep

Tibet Plateau is the living area of a series of special wild animals in China. It is reported that there are 118 species of mammals, 473 species of birds, 49 species of reptilias, 61 species of fish and more than 2300 insects living on Tibet Plateau. Typical Wild Animals on Tibet Plateau – Ochotona Cuzoniae

Tourists making a Tibet tour to the prairie on Tibet Plateau might always hear some kind of squeak produced by the Ochotona Cuzoniae, an animal looks like a rabbit and has the same living habit with the rat. It is even called rat rabbit by local Tibetans for its appearance and habit. Ochotona Cuzoniae loves inhabit in meadow steppe located in the broad valley, bottomland and foot area of the mountains with warm and humid climate. Ochotona Cuzoniae is a special animal which doesn't enjoy the hibernation habit in winter. It could even go out for seeking food in winter when the climate on Tibet Plateau has drop to lower than -20 Celsius. In summer, the Ochotona Cuzoniae moves more frequently. It could even move to places hundreds meters away for the seeking of food.

Typical Wild Animals on Tibet Plateau – Argali Sheep

Argali Sheep is also noted as Big Headed Sheep among local Tibetans. Tourists making a Tibet tour in the wild are always impressed by its semi-heliciform horns. Argali Sheep lives in the high mountain area with severe cold climate, bare rocks and steep cliffs. It is an animal which has strong resistance in thirst. It is said that the Argali Sheep only drinks once in 1-2 days. The Argali Sheep always move in herd and each herd is composed around 13 sheep. It has been listed as a rare wild animal with high ornamental value and economical value.

Typical Wild Animals on Tibet Plateau – Tibetan Eared Pheasant

Tibetan Eared Pheasant has been listed as a rare animal in the world. It could not be found in any other corners in the world except for Tibet Plateau. Actually, the Tibetan Eared Pheasant originates in Tibet Plateau and its reproduction is ensured on Tibet Plateau for local Tibetans never hurt it or take it as food. The Tibetan Eared Pheasant is divided into the blue Tibetan Eared Pheasant and the white Tibetan Eared Pheasant according to the color of their feathers. It is researched that the child Tibetan Eared Pheasant takes the insects as their main food while the adult Tibetan Eared Pheasant takes certain plants as its main food.

Typical Wild Animals on Tibet Plateau – Tibetan Snow Cock

The scientific name of the Tibetan Snow Cock is Tetraogallus Tibetanus. It mainly lives in the bare rock area of the high mountains with an altitude of 4000-5000 meters. It is a typical high plateau rare bird. Tourists making a Tibet tour to eastern Tibet, southern Tibet, the depopulated zone of northern Tibet and Ngari Plateau might have the chance to witness the Tibetan Snow Cock if you are lucky enough. It is said that the Tibetan Snow Cock is of high medicinal value.
