Tibet Tour from Chengdu by Bus

Chengdu is a city with complete transportation system. While a lot of tourists choose to start a Tibet tour from Chengdu by air or by train, there is still a certain number of tourists would like to make a Tibet tour from Chengdu by bus.

Sichuan-Tibet Highway is one of the most difficult projects in the history of Chinese construction. It starts from Chengdu and divides into two at Xinduqiao. The Northern Sichuan-Tibet Highway meet the Southern Sichuan-Tibet Highway again at Bangda and then stretches to Lhasa via Basu, Bome and Nyingchi.

The Northern Sichuan-Tibet Highway stretches toward Qamdo and Bangda in Tibet via Gantse and Dege in Sichuan Province. The Southern Sichuan-Tibet Highway stretches toward Mangkang in Tibet via Yajiang, Litang and Batang in Sichuan Province. Then the two routes meet at Bangda and stretches toward Lhasa through Basu, Bome and Nyingchi.

Magnificent natural landscapes are available if you make a Tibet tour from Chengdu through Sichuan-Tibet Highway. It will lead you climb over 14 mountains with an altitude of more than 4000 meters. You will also cross over the Dadu River, Jinsha River, Nu River and Lancang River with rushing flows. The road condition is pretty poor and dangerous along the way, but you could enjoy the rarely magnificent natural landscapes of snow-covered mountains, primitive forests, grasslands, glaciers and canyons.

There are long-distance buses opened between Chengdu and Lhasa every week. The long-distance bus between Chengdu and Qamdo is also available. The departure time of these buses is not fixed and it varies in different seasons.

So far, the long-distance buses between Chengdu and Tibet would like to enter into Tibet through Qinghai-Tibet Highway instead of Sichuan-Tibet Highway. Tourists have to change several buses if you want to enter into Tibet through Sichuan-Tibet Highway.
