Climbing on the Cho Oyu Peak

Cho Oyu Peak is also called Joe Wuya Peak, located in the middle part of Himalaya Mountain Range, approximately 29 kilometers away from the Mount Everest. It is the boundary mountain of China and Nepal. It is the 6th highest mountain throughout the world, 8204 meters high. The name of Cho Oyu literally means "the Great Master" in Tibetan language.

Cho Oyu Peak - Name Origination

Cho Oyu Peal has another named called Joe Wuya. Joe means the deity, and the Wuyar means the bald. Therefore Joe Wuya means bald deity. Why we called it like this? There is an origination of it.

As we all know, there are 7 high mountains around Cho Oyu Peak called 7 brothers and sisters. Mt. Everest is standing opposite to Cho Oyu Peak. It is said that Cho Oyu Peak fell in love each other with the 3rd high mountain - Mount Everest. But unfortunately, Mount Everest got married with Makalu Peak, which is much closer with her. Joe Wuya was so disappointed that he shaved all his hair and never married in his life. He turned his head towards the west back to Mount Everest.

So each of these 6 highest mountains are surrounding Mount Everest except Cho Oyu Peak now. Tibetan people love Cho Oyu Peak so much because of this sad story of him. Every year, large numbers of believers are praying and worshiping at the foot of Cho Oyu Peak to show their respect.

Cho Oyu Peak - Reasonable Route

Drive from Lhasa to Tingri along southern Tibetan highway via Shigatse and Latse. It is approximately 718 kilometers long. Then arrival at the north part of Cho Oyu Peak after 40-kilometer driving along the general road towards the south. That is the mountaineering base camp of Gyabula Glacier. It is 4959 meters high with vast coverage and abundant water resource. The traditional route of climbing is right on the north slope of Cho Oyu Peak.

Cho Oyu Peak - Notes of Climbing Cho Oyu Peak

A. Before climbing Cho Oyu Peak, you are highly advised to have a planned expert physical training to make sure the safety of your body. Because Cho Oyu Peak is over 8000 meters high and ranks the No. 6 throughout the world. The route of climbing Cho Oyu Peak is so long and risk that your physical strength and strong spirit are very helpful for you while climbing. As a matter of fact, there are only few mountaineer enthusiasts are successful to climb over this mountain.

B. The professional skill of rock climbing and ice climbing are required when you are right standing in 6850 meters high and 7750 meters high, otherwise it is very dangerous for you.

C. The route is very long and snow covers all years around from the 1st campsite to the 2nd campsite, besides the route from the 3rd campsite to the top of Cho Oyu Peak. People are easily frostbit when suffers the strong wind while climbing. So you'd better prevent yourself from the cold and wind. Meanwhile, you'd better make your body lower to avoid the strong wind.

D. The professional coach and high mountain guide are very important for you when you are climbing. They will give you very expert suggestions and advice when you are exhausted. People should not climb the mountains lonely without any companions.
