Travel to Tibet from Chongqing by Train

Chongqing is a modern city equipped with complete transportation system. There are two railway stations and one airport in the main city area of Chongqing. Trains between Chongqing and different domestic cities were available in these two railway stations. Tourists willing to travel to Tibet from Chongqing could travel to Chongqing by train first and then take the train to Lhasa after a few sightseeing days in Chongqing. It should be noted that the Chongqing-Lhasa train is only available in Chongqing North Railway Station every other day. Tourists should get to Chongqing North Railway Station in advance in case of missing the train.

It takes about 45 hours to get to Lhasa Railway Station from Chongqing North Railway Station. Just as the same as the Tibet trains from other domestic cities, the Chongqing-Lhasa train is equipped with oxygen supply facilities. The is sufficient oxygen content on the train even it is running along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway with high altitude. Lhasa Railway Station is quite close to the down town of Lhasa City. Generally, it takes about half an hour driving to get to any hotel in the down town from the railway station. Travel to Tibet from Chongqing by Air

As one of the largest airports in southwest China, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport had opened a series of domestic and international flights. Tourists planning to take Chongqing as the gateway city to Lhasa could fly to Chongqing first and then fly to Lhasa after sightseeing in Chongqing. Tourists planning to travel to Tibet from Chongqing by air should note that both the flight to Nyingchi and Lhasa had been opened in Chongqing. Tourists willing to visit Nyingchi with lower altitude first could fly to Nyingchi from Chongqing directly. For tourists willing to land on Lhasa first, there are flights between Chongqing and Lhasa from the sunrise to the sunset.

Be different from traveling to Tibet from Chongqing by train, tourists planning to travel to Tibet from Chongqing by air are required to present the original copy of your Tibet Travel Permit. It is impossible to board on the plane to Lhasa or Nyingchi without the original Tibet Travel Permit.
