Road to Gyantse

The Gyantse is the must-pass place from Sakya, Shigatse and Zham Port to Lhasa. Because territory is very rich and populous, Gyantse became the collecting place of Buddhism believers, merchants and travelers. Hence, the transportation in Gyantse became very important. The transportation of Gyantse is very convenience. It is about 260 kilometers away from Lhasa; about 230 kilometers away from the largest airport in Tibet – Lhasa Gonggar Airport; about 215 kilometers to south border city.

Presently, the transportation of Gyantse is very convenience. Starting from Gyantse, you can reach Shannan and Lhasa if go toward east; you can reach Shigatse if go toward north; you can reach Tingri via Gangba and Tingjie if go toward west; you can reach the border city Yadong via beautiful Yadong Valley if go toward south.

Gyantse Tour – Public Vehicle

If you have Gyantse tour from Lhasa, you can directly take public vehicle from Lhasa to Gyantse. Of course, you can first visit Shigatse, and then take public vehicle from Shigatse to Gyantse. There are privately-owed long-distance buses to Gyantse and Lhasa in Shigatse. From morning to 15:00 on every day, there are privately-owed long-distance buses in middle size to Gyantse outside the bus station of Shigatse Jiefang Middle Road. If you start from Lhasa in the morning and transfer at Shigatse at 15:00, you may reach the town of Gyantse in the evening. After visiting Gyantse, go back to Shigatse. If you want to go back to Lhasa after your Gyantse tour, you can wait the bus at the bus station of Gongjuelin Road, opposite to the building of Commerce and Industry Bureau. The public vehicle from Lhasa to Shigatse includes public-owed and privately-owed. The ticket price is 38 CNY. In Shigatse, there are privately-owed buses to Gyantse at the bus station. The ticket price is 25 CNY.

Gyantse Tour – Self-drive

The distance between Lhasa and Gyantse is about 270 kilometers. It will spend about five to six hours to drive. The road of whole journey is cobble road, with some twisting mountain road. The road is in good condition, and almost vehicles can pass by. The way from Gyantse to Shigatse is about 90 kilometers. It will spend about one to two hours to drive. The road is flat asphalt road.
