The whole Qinghai-Tibet Railway has been opened to traffic in July 2006. Both the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Qinghai-Tibet Highway head to Lhasa from Xining in Qinghai Province. With an altitude around 3600 meters, Lhasa Railway Station is about half an hour driving away from Lhasa.
