Travel to Tibet in October by Train

The whole Qinghai-Tibet Railway has been opened to traffic in July 2006. Both foreign tourists and domestic visitors could enter into Tibet by train from Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xining, Lanzhou, Shanghai or Guangzhou. Both the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Qinghai-Tibet Highway head to Lhasa from Xining in Qinghai Province. Visitors entering into Tibet by train will have the chance to witness a series of famous railway stations and scenic spots on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

With an altitude around 3600 meters, Lhasa Railway Station is about half an hour driving away from Lhasa. For foreign tourists come to Lhasa by train, your guide and driver will be waiting for you at Lhasa Railway Station and greet you with a white hada. For tourists travel to Tibet in October by train from Beijing, Guangzhou or Chongqing, it is necessary to prepare some favorite food and beverage in advance in case the food provided on the train couldn't meet your appetite. Listen music, read books or enjoy the fascinating natural scenery on Tibet Plateau will help you to spend the dozens hours on the train. A soft berth would always be much comfortable than a hard berth.

Travel to Tibet in October by Air

The direct flights between Lhasa Gongga Airport, Chongqing, Beijing, XiAn, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qamdo and Kathmandu had been opened to visitors. Lhasa Gonggga Airport is about 70 kilometers away from the downtown and it takes about 1.5 hours driving to get to the downtown from the airport. Tourists planning to travel to Tibet in October by air are strongly suggested to walk slowly and take good care of your health after you land on Lhasa. Generally, it takes about 1-2 days to get adapted to the high altitude in Lhasa.

Except for Lhasa Gongga Airport, Nyingchi Milin Airport and Qamdo Bangda Airport were also opened to tourists. Currently, tourists planning to travel to Tibet in October could fly to Nyingchi from Chengdu or Chongqing. It should be noted that the Chengdu/Chongqing-Nyinchi flight tickets are in extremely large demand in the high season of Tibet tour and it is necessary to issue the air tickets in advance. Qamdo Bangda Airport only opened the air lines to Lhasa and Chengdu. The flight schedule is not fixed due to the flight condition is greatly decided by the weather condition.

Travel to Tibet in October by Vehicle

There are four choices for tourists planning to travel to Tibet in October by vehicle – the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, Yunnan-Tibet Highway, Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Xinjiang-Tibet Highway. Road condition of Qinghai-Tibet Highway is the best among the four highways leading to Lhasa. It is said that Qinghai-Tibet Highway is the highest and longest asphalt highway around the world. It enjoys a total length of 1214 kilometers from Xining to Lhasa. Qinghai-Tibet Highway enjoys an average altitude of more than 4000 meters and the famous Tanggula Mountain Pass on the highway has an elevation of 4837 meters.
