Lamaling Monastery in Nyingchi

Lamaling Monastery is located at the mountain valley, about 30 kilometers away from the Bayi Town, Nyingchi Prefecture. It is an ancient monastery belongs to Nyingma Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It attracts a large number of tourists with its precious cultural relics (including some exquisite murals) and special religious atmosphere.

Construction of Lamaling Monastery

Lamaling Monastery is surrounded by dense forests. Tourists making a Nyingchi tour here would always firstly impressed by the attractive golden roof of Lamaling Monastery. The colorful chrysanthemum and Sims Azalea outside the chapels and dormitories of the Buddhists in the monastery always make tourists feel a fresh atmosphere. The sound produced by the musical instruments and the Buddhism scripture chanting in the monastery made the whole mountain valley is full of religious atmosphere.

Situated on the left bank of the lower reaches of Niyang River, Lamaling Monastery enjoys important status in Tibetan Buddhism in Nyingchi. Master Padmasambhava is enshrined in the monastery. Tourists making a Nyinchi tour here would find that the walls of the main building of Lamaling monastery are in different colors, including white, blue, red and green. The white on the east wall symbols the crystal, the blue on the south wall symbols the blue glaze, the red in the west symbols the red agate and the green in the north wall symbols the green agate.

The main building of Lamaling Monastery has three floors. The eave of the ground floor has 20 angles while the eave of the second and third floor have 8 angles. Master Padmasambhava is enshrined in the first floor, Avalokitesvara is enshrined in the second floor, and Amitabha Buddha is enshrined in the third floor. The entire construction integrates the Tibetan and Han architectural features.

Taboos in Lamaling Monastery

There is a famous saying goes that do as Romans do when you are in Rome. Tourists making a Nyingchi tour and pay a visit to Lamaling Monastery are highly advised to respect the traditions and never violate the taboos in Lamaling Monastery. Tourists are required to take off your sunglasses, hat and shoes. It is forbidden to take photos in the monastery. It is impolite to touch the statues enshrined in the monastery or any other religious instruments in the monastery. Besides, tourists could also not step on the threshold in the monastery.
