Visitors who are holding foreign passport or come from Taiwan need to handle Tibet Travel Permit before coming into Tibet.

Procedure of Tibet Travel Permit Application

You only need to provide professional Tibet travel agency the scanned copy of your passport and Chinese Visa, and your occupation. Then, the Tibet travel agency will apply for Tibet Travel Permit on behalf of you.

After Tibet Travel Permit is done, the travel agency will send you the Tibet Travel Permit. You can take flight or train to Tibet with the permit.

Relevant Provision about Tibet Travel Permit Application

It is prescribed by National Tourism Bureau that foreign visitors, Taiwan visitors and overseas Chinese (except Hong Kong, Macao residents with China SAR passport and Home Return Permit) are prohibited to travel in Tibet independently. No matter how many visitors are there in the group, they must be organized by professional travel agency, to carry out the tour as it planned.

From now on, the Tibet Travel Permit will be applied with 5 persons who come from the same country, and come into Tibet from same place at the same time.

First, please submit your basic information (name, nationality, age, gender, occupation, and passport number), specific way and the entry city to Tibet, itinerary in Tibet, travel intention, and contact number to professional Tibet travel agency; at the same time, email the scanned copy of your passport and Chinese Visa to the travel agency. Then, you will get relevant confirmation materials.

After receiving the copy of passport and Chinese Visa, the Tibet Travel Permit application process can be started immediately in common situation. Then, it needs about 3-7 working days to sign and issue this Tibet Travel Permit.

Furthermore, foreign visitors can apply for military permit with the Tibet Travel Permit. Commonly, it will be handled by Tibet travel agency. Foreign visitors to Tibet need to handle tourism Visa (L). If you are holding other types of Visa, it will be more complicated to apply for Tibet Travel Permit. It must be noticed that foreign journalist, government officials and diplomats are not allowed to go to Tibet as a common tourist.
