Travel agents are authorized to help to apply for Tibet Travel Permit for tourists. All you need to do is to offer information and documents necessary to the travel agent. The information required is your full name, the nationality, the occupation, the gender, and passport number. The documents you need to provide are the clear scanned copy of your passport and China visa.
You need to send the information and documents at least 15 days before your entry date to Tibet. The travel agency should hand in the material to TTB (Tibet Tourist Bureau) 15 days in advance. TTB begins to issue the application about 10 days in advance and will finish it in about 3 days in advance. Then the agency will send the Tibet Travel Permit to you before your starting day.

Maintenance of Tibet Travel Permit

Taking with the Tibet Travel Permit with you when get on a plane, train or bus. After arriving at the airport or train or bus station, you need to give the Tibet Travel Permit to your tour guide. Your guides will maintain it for you. And they need to apply for other Tibet permits for you if necessary, such as Aliens' Travel Permit or Military Permit. After you finish your tour in Tibet, the tour guide will submit your Tibet Travel Permit to TTB. And the TTB will Place the documents on file.

Validity of Tibet Travel Permit

The expiration date of Tibet Travel Permit is the date when you finish your tour in Tibet. You do not need a permit to leave Tibet. However you need to apply for another Tibet Travel Permit if you want to enter into any city of Tibet again.
