Representative Buildings - Norbulingka

Norbulingka is the representative of garden buildings of Tibetan architecture. Garden buildings like to build in the platform in a higher place and exacavate in a lower land, which would like to find the original and natural sceneries. So Norbulingka does. Norbulingka is surrounded by dence forests and lakes, pavilions and unique Tibetan houses with fresh air and peaceful environment.

Since built in the middle 18th century, Norbulingka has been extented as 2 times larger covering an area of 360000 square meters. It was ever the residence of Dalai Lama's in summer, but now it becomes a famous scenic spot to tourists.

Representative Buildings - Lansailin Manor

Lansailin Manor was surrounded by double fences, which the rectangle outer wall was built by stones mainly. The bottom of the inner wall was built by stones, too. The door of 3m wide was constructed in the center of east wall, while a smaller door was constructed in the southern wall. Between the two fences there was a ditch of 5m wide. The ditch was piled up by stones and aimed at resisting the enemies.

The buildings inside were built by a traditional way. The bottom of the building is the animal farm, the second and the third floors are usually used for storing stuffs. In the 3rd and 4th floor, there is a scripture hall and some storages. In the 5th floor, there is a Buddhismhall preserving many treasures. In the 6th floor, there is the bedroom of the master of this manor.
