Tibet Autonomous Region is the main part of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is regarded as the "roof of the world" with an average altitude of more than 4000 meters. The landform here is pretty complicated and could be divided into three main parts: the Northern Tibet Plateau takes two thirds of the total area of Tibet Autonomous Region; the Southern Tibet Valley – the river basin of Yarlung Zangbo River and its branches; the high mountains and gorges in Eastern Tibet.

The Himalayas located in Southern Tibet Plateau is composed of several parallel mountains and its main part is situated on the boarder between China and India, Nepal. Himalayas has a length of 2400 kilometers and a width of 200-300 kilometers. The average altitude here is more than 6000 meters. The highest peak in the world – Mt. Everest is located at the border of China and Nepal. There are 42 mountains with an altitude of more than 7000 meters in an area of 5000 square kilometers around Mt. Everest, among which four of them are more than 8000 meters above the sea level. These high mountains attract a large number of tourists to make a Tibet adventure tour for expedition.

Tibet Adventure Tour – Lakes and Rivers in Tibet

There are more than 100 rivers with a river basin of more than two thousand square kilometers in Tibet, among which more than 20 of them have a river basin of more than 10 thousand square kilometers. Salween River, Jinsha River, Lantsang River and Yarlung Zangbo River are the most noted rivers in Tibet. The tributaries and origin of some international rivers are also in Tibet, such as the Ganges River, the Indus River and the Irrawaddy River.
